First physical -- nervous, depressed
I have my first physical exam next Tuesday with a GP that an acquaintence from a lapband board recommended. That's right, first physical at 28. I've never had my cholesterol or blood sugars checked, nothing like that. I'm not sure exactly what I need to discuss with him yet, but I know that I need to write up some medical history and the like.
I think that I have never gone because I figured that a doctor would just tell me to lose weight and I wasn't in the mood to hear it, because I know it already. But I know now that I need to do this to assess my health, because that will obviously affect how I proceed with WLS.
My insurance company excludes coverage of all WLS. All they offer in the way of assistance is two visits to a nutritionist. Not much help at all. My husband's insurance is about to change at the first of the year, so then I'll see what it covers and will possibly make a switch. Unfortunately that can't happen until summer and I'm very impatient to get this show on the road. If his insurance won't cover it either, I guess I'll have to start looking at self-paying. I don't know how that will be possible...
I am so depressed with my weight lately. So few of my clothes fit and I put on four pairs of pants (or attempted to) this morning before leaving the house in disgust. Argh.
Thanks for reading...
You are taking the first step! Wow!

OK, here are some things your doc should ask about, so be prepared. And if he doesn't ask, tell him anyway! It's very personal, and hard to start out, but the doc needs baseline info.
I know some of this sounds like "old lady stuff". Just figure out what applies to you, and what doesn't.
What is your weight history; always overweight/ can lose but regain it/other, and for how long?
Do you have pain in back/hips/knees/shoulders/other areas (joint pain)?
Headaches? What do they feel like (sharp, dull, band around the head or one point?).
Heartburn? If so when (just at night, day time, only when laying down, all the time?).
Can you get out of bed easily in the morning, or does it take a while to "get moving"?
Can you walk up 2 flights (or 1 flight) of stairs without stopping? How long does it take to catch your breath afterwards?
Do you get up in the night to go to the bathroom? how many times?
Are you thirsty a lot? Do you have to pee frequently?
Do you have stress incontinence (pee a little if you laugh or cough too hard)?
What is your family history, including parents, siblings, regarding weight, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, etc.
This is just a starting point. Be VERY proud of yourself for taking care of yourself!
You deserve it! And this board is a great place to ask for info, support, ideas, prayers..... what ever you need.
