Looking for a pet, PLEASE HELP!

I am looking for a dog for my 3 year old daughter (who is great with animals). We found a stray last Christmas Eve and decided to keep her but she is in failing health. She is blind, can't hear, has a neurological disorder and gets pneumonia quite easily. My daughter is heartbroken and I really want to get her another dog, small breed preferable (nothing bigger than a ****er Spaniel). I don't have a great deal of money but willing to work things out. I have checked the local shelters and pet rescue organizations but they have a strict rule about adopting small dogs in rescue to homes with small children. Can anyone help?

I know you said you wanted a smaller dog - but if you'd consider a German Shepherd I'll give him to you for free. I have his shot records. Let me know if you'd be intrested. Dee Dee
