Weight Loss and Birth Control Pills
Hi ya'll,
I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but here goes. I know that "in general" they say that it's harder to lose weigh when you are on birth control pills because they tend to cause you to gain weight, will I was wondering if anyone here was on them after their surgery and if they thought they might be slowing down your weight loss. I had my surgery 3 months ago and have only lost 38 lbs and feel like I should have lost a lot more. I follow the diet plans to a "T", even going so far as to keep a daily food journal and yet, the weigh seems to be really slow to leave. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks.
Jana B.
Hey Stephanie,
It was good seeing you also yesterday. You know, you would think I would ask about this but it was so crazy in there that I forgot several things I needed to ask. Would you believe that even lost my chart after they took me back. Anyway, they confirmed what my scales at home said...38 lbs. I guess as long as it's going downhill, I will just be happy with that. You looked great too. Email me at gaprincess53@yahoo about the christmas get together, I would love to be involved.

My doctor said to stay away from BCP for a few reasons. 1) You're going to have a lot of estrogen released into our bodies from the weight loss and the additional estrogen that is in the pills will cause even more havoc for the hormal system and 2) it does tend to slow weight loss down during the "rapid" weight loss time. (Theres also a thought that it won't be absorbed into the system correctly.)
There are other things you can use for Birth Control such as the ring - I would say the patch but there is a lot of controversy about it right now.
I'm 18 months out on the 24th and my doctor said once I got to that point I could look into going back on BCP - but I doubt I will since I will be (gasp) 25 in March and my gyn doesn't want me to be on them after 35.....
Just my $.02

Dee Dee,
Thanks so much for your 2 cents (wink). You know, I had a gyn visit right before my surgery, I mentioned that I was gonna have the surgery, they knew I was on the pill and yet, they didn't caution me at all about it. After reading what you, Tami and Laura said, I think I had better call and speak to one of the nurses there. Thanks again,
Jana
I have to agree with every thing Dee Dee advised. I was advised not to use BCP for birth control after the surgery because the new pouch does not absorb like the old stomach and the pill may not work properly plus fertility increases greatly after the surgery. Just be very careful if you don't want a child right now. I was advised to use the ring or depo shot but be careful the shot can cause major weight gain. I don't know anything about the ring.
Your doing well. It took most of us years to put the weight on so it will take a while to take it off too. Happy holidays!
Tami
Ok well here is my 2cents....Ok i was on the Depo shot before ....i had surgery and my doc said it was ok to stay on it due to the type of hormones and all it has ...Well now as for loseing slower or something ..I think it might alittle due to i was a slow loser like you ..I was about the same as you and i still have 40 to go ....But no one ever said not to be on it to just check with my OBGYN ......and she was cool with the depo ....so that is my experence with it
Laura
