Any MEN who have had WLS, waiting for approval, or thinking about it?

Hello Everyone- I am thinking of WLS and was wondering if there are any men out there who have gone through the process, etc. I am 27 years old and want to get this done before getting diabetes and other problems. I have dieted ever since high school and have not had any success. If anyone (male or female) have any advice, feel free to email me at [email protected]. I think I would like to get my procedure done at North Fulton Regional Hospital by Dr. Macik since I work there and am familiar with everything.

Hey Michael, I am just over two months post op with the Duodenal Switch... I had a long row to hoe... but it was worth every moment of grief and frustration... I lost 40lbs before surgery and have lost 63lbs since Sept 6th surgery date.... I am SO GLAD I got the DS, I have a MUCH more normal diet and it is less restrictive. I am 42y/o 6foot tall and at my heaviest weighed 425lbs I live in Canton (nw of atlanta) I used Dr. Maynard in Conyers because I have an HMO and Dr Smith in woodstock doesn't take HMO's any longer... I am SO HAPPY with Doc and his staff... it was / is worth the 80mile trip I had to deal with... and now... that I am post and seeing the results I am having WOW... I hope you will review ALL WLS procedure with an Open mind before deciding what is best for you and will follow through with it... also, after my surgery... I was no longer diabetic... my blood sugars are between 97 and 120 WITH NO MEDS.... I was taking 60units of lantus once a day and advandament twice aday... since my surgery I haven't taken anything thing.... Good Luck on your Journey... Medicgeek10

I am in the start process of doing the PT, following the nutritionist plan, and getting the support group meetings completed. I want the Duodenal Switch done. Dr. Maynard's office (Conyers, GA) is closest surgeon to me that does the procedure and accepts my insurance. He is still a 5 1/2 hour drive. I believe it will change my life and allow me to live a more normal lifestyle than being this weight has allowed (394 lbs).

Best move I ever made ol buddy. You'll be glad you did it. I was big at 27, but waited until I was 43. Think of all those years i wasted! Good luck. My profile gives some of the story...
