NG tube, etc Question
Hi Melissa!
I know all docs are different but I had some oxygen for just a little while and a catheter (which doesn't show
). That was all the tubing I had.
My 5 year old daughter went with us the day of surgery and I am truly glad I did. She didn't have to worry about her mama and it was so relaxing for her to climb up on the bed next to me and take a nap with me
I think she also was good company for daddy and they stayed at the manly house, which is right across the street from the hospital.
hope this helps a little...
love,
Barb

Hi Melissa,
Thanks for asking 'bout me
I have lost 80 pounds, yesterday was my 4 month anniversary. My doc just took me off my last blood pressure pill, so thats 2 diabetic meds and 2 bp meds gone bye bye. And when I went to the doc last week, they used a regular size bp cuff on me instead of having to go and get the extra large one! Its amazing what the little things mean.
I still have bad issues with food, a lot of pouch cramps. Hurts like a dickens! And I puke alot. I do good with my water and get all my protein in through food. The doc checked my levels and said I was doing great.
I started this week with my hair falling out, its a hassle but a small price to pay for losing 80 pounds.
Your day is coming right around the corner, you always sound so positive and excited. I know your faith is bringing you along. Write me if you need anything.
love, Barb

Hi I had oxygen, and I had a tube in my tummy, but it wasn't visible when I was in bed. I think I had an IV the first day..and yeah, the catheter. I actually took that sucker home for a week, but I was able to pin it inside my clothing..no one knew it existed.
I have visited MANY of Dr. Duncan's patients after surgery (yes..I have "angel'd" before) and I don't recall seeing lots of tubes in anyone.
I would suggest having her in the SECOND day, cuz girl, you aren't gonna feel like socializing or be able to REMEMBER socializing the day of.....
I'll be seeing you!!!
You won't have an NG tube...that's the one that goes down your nose and to your tummy to suck out vomit, blood and other gross crap. You don't want one either. I had one a year ago when I had emergency surgery. What a mess. I couldn't sleep. It HURT. I wasn't allowed to even drink who a whole flippin' week! Ok-just had bad memories is all

Melissa , Hey all I had was a oxygen tube and also the catherter. But to be honest with you the rest off the day surgery day that is I don't remember really anything I slept and was in and out the whole time untill night then i finally woke up for a while and walked and I am glad i didn't bring the boys there i think i would of scared them more if they had been talking to me and i just fell asleep on them.they came and picked me up and it was good for them to see me when i was ready to go home. This is only what I did . Beth
My 7 year old was not scared- I think with some prep she will be fine.
I told Caity, that I would be in the hospital a few days so I could loose my big belly, so I could swim and run and do lots of fun things with her! I then told her, that I will feel yucky for a couple of weeks- so she needed to help me. I also told her about the tubes before she saw them.. I told her that they are there to give me lots of get well medicine.
She was perfectly ok. I would start talking about it now.

I had a catheter ...... the oxygen was the "nose" tube but that's not bad looking. I had the IV (My morphiene pump!!!!) in and that was my friend! I think the worst thing that happened was I had bit my lip when the removed the entibation tube so it had bled a little bit. My sister came in the evening of my surgery (I slept all day except a few phone calls) and she brought my "kids" - my neice and nephew that are just like my own kids - to see me and they were fine with seeing me. My baby girl climbed into the bed with me for a few minutes and we cuddled....and it didn't bother her at all...but it's not completely fair to say that because they had expirenced hospitals from an early age because of my mom being sick for so long - they were used to visiting her.
If you let her know that theer will be little things to make you feel better she may be okay with visiting.....but the day of surgery you're going to be very groggy.....so if she's gonna be there to keep daddy company - then she should be fine. If you have a baby sitter for her I'd take advantage of that - but that's just me!
I know you're getting excited!!!
Much
