How important is it to eat when you are getting all the protien in and your vitamins? I am not having alot of success lately, keeping thins down... Also, I take three (pretty small) capsules everyday, I would prefer to just swallow them instead of having to open them up and put them in somethng. Is this a problem? Thank You all for your help and may the good Lord continue to see us all through this magnificent journey!! Tonya

You still have to eat, period. Without calories, you will not lose weight, and you will not be healthy. The protein and vitamins are supplements to your food, not your lifeline. I can take pills just fine, even my pre-natals, and those things are HUGE! I didnt see how far out you are, but soups are always an option.. you can go high or low calorie depending on how much dense food you can eat. You need food, period. Plus, it provides other nutrients that your vitamins do not provide.. Folate, extra Iron, Omega acids.. Kay 06/19/04 - Lap RNY 410-198-200 Expecting a little surprise 02/15/06!

Hi, Tonya, I agree with Kay about the eating part. You need to eat. Finding foods that would agree with my pouch was the hardest part for me at your stage. It will get better! I started taking capsules at about five days because the powder made me gag (even mixed with food). You might want to try putting the capsule in water and seeing how quickly it desolves. You can then drink it. Hugs, Becky

So does that mean food that you really chew? I'm having a very hard time finding things that agree with me - especially meat. I find that soft foods like milk, yogurt, ricotta cheese, refried beans, baby food, mozarella cheese and slim fast work best. I'm getting in my protein and water. So far, I've tried meat a few times and it came right back up. I'm 8 weeks out and beginning to worry just a little about being able to eat real food.

The foods you named (except baby food ) were main staples for me too. Meat is tricky. It's one of those things that you have to try a little at a time. For me, sea food stayed down earlier than other meat. Scallops, lobster, shrimp...shell fish were my favorites. Remember to try one kind at a time to begin, take a small bite and chew, chew chew. Wait a few minutes to see how it settles. Red meat worked best for me next, but everyone is different. I wasn't able to handle chicken until about a year. Some can handle it as soon as solids are added. When I was at your stage, I was having the same problems. At this time, getting in all of your water, vitamins, and protein is tough for MOST. Don't worry. Sounds like you are on the right road. Hugs, Becky

You have to eat. Take food VERY Slowly....start with clear liquids if you're having hard time eating solids....stay on purred as long as you need you've had a MAJOR operation....Your body will burn the "excess" fat you don't already have stored in your body within the first few days....the rest of what you will loose initially is water and muscle mass unless you eat to provide more fuel for your body to burn off the excess. Like Kay said - soup, SF Ice Cream pops, if you can handle that eat "chunky" soups or mashed potatoes - but make them more watery than normal. Food is necessary....it's not up to you to start making healthy choices and eating. Try different tricks like chewing even more thoroughly your food.....eating slower.....Drink HOT fluid prior to eating.... Simply put you have to eat. You can't maintain on protein drinks and vitamins! Good luck to you! Dee Dee 16 months PO 350/161/155 - 5'5"

My doc told me the protien from shakes, is not = to the protien you get from real food.............. What happens when you eat? You should tell your Dr.... you might have a stricture ( scaring around your opening of your pouch) .... I have been swalling pills from day 1... It works for me!
