I haven't posted in a while, but I was just wondering if anyone has had any recent luck, after 7-1-05, getting the State Merit System to pay for the WLS. If so please email me at [email protected] and let me know what you did. Thanks, Sandra

I don't have state benefits as I use my hubby's but I have a teacher friend who is looking into RNY who has state merit. She must be around 350...anyhoo-do they exclude RNY or is it just hard to get approved? Since open enrollment is coming up-what do you all think about various plans and WLS? Does BCBS approve through the state? I know that UHC is **** ANyhoo-just want to give me co-worker a heads up if I need to!

I had UHC when I had surgery, and they were pretty good (paid everything...I had to pay $0 at the hospital). I have it through my husband...who works for county government. I think it depends more on the employer than the actual insurance company. They have recently switched to Kaiser POS, but they do have a rider in the plan to cover the surgery. Their HR director had surgery, and she fought to have it added to the new plan. Good luck.

I won my surgery on appeal due to them denying me before the exclusion took place. But there was an exclusion that the state of georgia signed on July 1, 2005 that excludes any weight loss surgery. They denied me in February based on an exclusion that started in july so they gave me until oct 31 to get surgery but as much as I am hoping I may not make that Keep fighting. You never know. Nalani

I got all my paperwork together, got all the blood work done, psych visit and nutritionist visit done. Emory said they were going to file yesterday. State Merit ppo won't cover a bit of it I'm told. But I'm also covered under my wife's BCBS FEP and they said they would pick up what State Merit won't. Now it wait and see time. Wish me luck, Kit
