Went to my one month post op today, it was a little informative but I was surprised they did not even weigh me! Just a short question and answer session. Still no fresh veggies or salads. I bought a bowflex over the weekend and she will not let me use it until I am 3*4 months post op. Is anyone else doing more than just walking sooner than 3-4 mos? I am so motivated now. Judye

I was able to join a gym at 8 weeks....walked daily before then....I'm going to tell you any "gym" worth thier weight will ask if you have a doctors release if they know you've had the surgery. There are a LOT of risks involved with weight training that they do not want to take a chance on. I am a certified group fitness instructor and would never recommend any one to ever go against their doctor's wishes. Please remember you have gone through MAJOR surgery. The insides of your body do not heal as quickly as the outsides. WALKING is actually one of the BEST exercises you can do for yourself. Use that as motivation!!!!! Congrats on your one month mark - the time will fly!!!! Dee Dee

Thanks Dee Dee, I know it is best to be conservative, I will stick to the treadmill and try to stay motivated but am getting a bit flabby in the middle! je

I was weightlifting a month and a half out from my lap rny...but that was me. In a month ask your doctor again...or try some light weights. I was also doing beginner step, the treadmill and elliptical at that time too. If you got yours open that's a whole other can of worms.

Thanks Sherry, I had Lap rny also and I heal faster than most prople even though I will be 50 in Oct. and I feel I am ready but I will stick to the Dr.'s orders, at least for another month but then I will really have to think about starting the bowflex. I do have some small hand weights that I will probably go ahead and start using for now and am already using my treadmill.

I can't believe they didn't weigh you...I think that was a mistake. They weighed me at one month. And, she said I could go back to the pool and step up my exercise. It might be because of the other issues you are having to deal with maybe? I do think they should have weighed you. They weighed me, and I gained 3 pounds! She said not to worry about it, but I was a bit discouraged.

I think it was a mistake also, they did not take vitals or anything. The other issues have turned out to be jus****er retention so I am fine, still have the uti but got dif meds for that. My appt was at 1pm but did not get in until 1:45 I think it was after lunch and Dr. Fields seemed tired to me. It's alright I know I am fine. I might wait another month before doing serious ab exercises just to be sure all is healed. I think you told me once that you had UHC? Did you know that Dr. D was not participating in this plan when we had our surgery? I have been getting my eob's unpaid and then finally they paid Dr. D's bill "out of network". When I inquired with the billing office at my two week apt they told me about the problem. When I was in the office yesterday Don went and ckd for me and said all is fine the they did pay as out of network but they got more money than they would have so they will not bill me the dif. Just fyi Thanks je
