I'm In Shock!

I just got off the phone with the Administrator at Emory-Adventist Hospital, and he is going to have his Chief of Staff find someone to do my surgery and also re-imburse me for any additional expenses I may incurr because of the abrupt cancelation of my surgery. I am just sick over the fact that I should have been on the other side, safe in my room today. Now I'm facing another surgeon, another hospital, more long trips to Atlanta, and all the attendant tests, visits, etc, a change will entail. I still prefer my original surgeon, but that doesn't seem to be a viable choice. Please remember me in your prayers as I'm feeling overwhelmed by depression. Barb c.

I bet they'll have to redo the psych test after all this! Don't know what I'd do without this board to b**ch and moan to. Barb

Barb, I know that with all of this going on you need someone to vent to, and we are glad that you are on the GA Board to be able to let your feelings out. One question that is bothering me is, does your Doctor have any other hospital priviledges at other hospitals?? I know that when I was scheduling my surgery, they asked me which hospital did I prefer to go to, as he did this surgery at 2-3 various hospitals. Make sure that you get in writing what the Administrator said about paying for the additional costs, etc., BEFORE you start seeing another doctor. Are they willing to pay for your family to fly to Atlanta, etc. If they are going to cancel your Doctor's contract, make they PAY!! I will definitely be keeping you in my prayers. Norma

Thanks, George. First my car self-distructs, and now my surgery. Am I snake-bit, or what? Just makes me more determined! Barb C.

Thanks, Norma. The problem in a nutshell is that this adminstrator recruited Dr. Scarborough three years ago with the intention of starting a Bariatric Center. He is under contract to Cobb Medical Associates, which is run by guess who? The hospital administrator. He has a non-compete clause that prevents him from getting privileges at any other hospital in the Atlanta area. I couldn't figure out why the surgeon's nurse was included in my last phone call until I realized that she, too, must be an employee of Cobb Medical Associates, and therefore under the direction of the administrator. It is a distressing situation, and I am quite concerned as to what the outcome will be. The administrator has promised me a letter spelling out all the details, so we shall see whether it actually comes. Barb C.
