I'm a little scared...

I'm not even 2 weeks out of surgery, and I have discovered that I can eat ANYTHING. Yes, chicken nuggets. Yes, peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread, yes, even snickers. I have no 'dumping' or anything else! I'm hungry ALL THE TIME. I've made it a goal not to, but it doesn't help to know, and it's just like before wls, it feels like diet failure. Once again, it's all about 'will-power'. I know I can't be the only one...Am I?

Gretchen You are not a failure !! It is time to get back on track Remember, protein first and no liquids 1/2 hr before and an hour after eating. Stay away from the carbs.... I am hungry alot too, but I realized today that I was not following some of the simple rules: Protein fills you up more and makes you less hungry. Instead of a sandwich have some broiled fish or chicken. If you stick with protein you will find you are not as hungry. Also, make sure you are not washing the food from your pouch by drinking too soon before or after eating. This just washes the food that is in there out, making you hungry all over again. I go through times of alot of hunger, but when I do a quick reality check, I realize I have not been following rules. When I get back on track I do better. You will do okay if you get back on track

Hi Gretchen, You have not failed with your new pouch. Please slow down. Remember that your new pouch will need to heal. It takes the new pouch 4 to 6 weeks to heal. I was on pureed food for 4 weeks after surgery, then semi-solid foods for 4 weeks, and then solid foods. My friend had GBS and 2 weeks post op she decided to eat a baked potatoe with butter and cottage cheese. The results was: INTESTIONAL BLOCKAGE! and . She needed emergency real . . My friend had to have GBS again to get rid of the blockage. She spent 3 weeks in the hospital with drainage tubes, infection, and high fevers. Be kind to your pouch and give it the best. Your pouch will give you good results:smaller, slimmer, and happy body. Call your surgeon or nutritionist to get back on track. WLS is the best gift that I have ever given myself. I had no problems with my surgery because I followed my surgeon's order. I wish you the best as you continue on your journery. Say to the wrong foods that cause our weight problems. Tammie G.

At 2 weeks out you should measure everything you eat and only eat what is on your plan because your pouch is healing and the neve endings do not tell you when you are full. Please be careful about what you eat or you could hurt yourself. Do you eat a whole peanut butter sandwich? Do you get the foamies when you eat too much or don't chew well? The hunger is probably head hunger you should get some counseling for that. Talk to your surgeon about this it doesn't sound right. You could have a staple line disruption or something going on. Good Luck!!!
