Sugar Free & Protien...
Hey ya'll!
I don't know if anyone else has experienced this or not. But all the sugar free jello and everything else seems to be SUPER sweet to me and its hard to tolerate. I have never been a person of sweets except for chocolate. But that was not an every day thing. All the protien drinks and shakes make me feel like
I had a bad couple of days this past week b/c of not getting enough protien. I have done the chicken broth so much that I am starting to see feathers, lol I ordered some unjury, so hopefully the tasteless kind will deal better with my tummy. Anyone else gone through this? If so, what did you do?
Thanks!

Hi Kim
I know just how you feel. I'm just past 3 months out and everything sugarfree is still too sweet for me. I drink water and sometimes some decaf ice tea sweetened with a pack of splenda. Even the diet juices are too sweet for me, I dilute them 1 oz juice to 3 oz water.
I couldn't tolerate protein drinks (and still don't) but by drinking 1% milk (4oz at a time) and eating yogurt I was able to get a good amount of protein in.
2 good things that worked for me early on was getting minnestrone soup and straining it. Its a light tomato based clear broth and seasoned so yummy... it was a welcome break from the chicken broth! The other thing was sf popsicles. I let them melt in my mouth and it was a painless way to get in some fluids (watrer was really hard at first). The sf banana pops from Kroger are my favorites. Popsicle brand also makes sf pops in cherry, orange and grape, and sf fudgesicles too.
The first month or two seemed to drag by for me, I just kept telling myself, one day at a time.
Thinking of you and hoping the difficult days speed by...

Oh Barb! i didnt even think about minnestrone soup! Yeah!!! something with TASTE! lol Do you have a brand that you like best? Is it fat free? I have been scared to eat yogurt or drink milk. I use to love eggs, but just the idea of the smell makes me sick feeling, lol I had problems with water the 1st week, But this week, I just want to CHUG it! I feel so thrusty. But if I drink to much, I get to feeling sick. I am doing good on the weight lose though. Since I have been home 9/1 I have lost 22.5 pounds. Looks like I am gonna have to head back to Wallyworld this weekend to get more groceries.
Thanks!
Hi Kim,
I liked campbells minnestrone the best, the ithers had too many herbs floating and the campbells just had the best taste. I also used better than boullion instead of regulat, it comes in a paste form but was much tastier than the regular. And, I don't know about fat free... I was taking in so little I didn't even consider that.
Congratulations on your weight loss!! Girl you are doing terrific! Are you able to get some walking in everyday? Its really important to prevent blood clots. I also read, and this keeps me totally motivated, that if you don't get some kind of excersize while you are losing weight you lose muscle, and your heart is a muscle. So I am faithfully on my treadmill everyday to keep my heart healthy! I'm not saying I like it, not one bit, but it is so important!
I'm not sure what your doc recomends for your food progression but when you advance to full liquids you can start milk. I feel very blessed that I didn't develope an intolerance to milk. Its a great protein source for me. My doc also recomends carnation instant breakfast, the low carb kind. I can handle that a little easier that the protein drinks but barely
It adds 4 more grams of protein to the milk.
I've got great sources of protein as you progress. Lets keep in touch and pull each other along!

Ms. Barb, you dont realize how much that info means to me! LOL THANK YOU!
I try to do some walking everyday, but had to quite this week b/c I was so weak and felt like I was going to pass out. Taking a shower is a CHORE. I had to put a chair in their incase I started getting weak. The doctors office said it was normal with some folks. Just need to increase my protein. But I do some form of walking everyday. I am going to add carnation to my shopping list. Sometimes when you are standing in the grocery isle, you keep looking and get totally lost, so thank you for the brand names. I am always so scared that I am going to get the wrong thing!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
