Heeeelllp! Question for post oper's....

Ok..... I know I have been MIA.... I have had a tough couple of weeks... with work etc....and I have been in a negative place, so I havent posted. But... this is the deal. I had surgery, on the 16th of last month..... and... other than the first week, I HAVENT LOST a lb!!! Did this happen to anyone else?????? I am getting my protien via protien shakes ( I vomit if I eat a crumb of chicken or beef). I am so frustrated. This feels like every other diet.. I do it..and I get little results. I am really... really upset. I hope everyone is well! Thanks! Michelle

I did not lose one pound from week 2 to week 5 post op. Hang in there, from what others have said, it is common for our bodies to go into panic mode lol. (hugs) Kia 5'9" 284/187/155

I know each of us have different surgeons and their rules on what you can or can't eat are different. I couldn't eat solid foods for 6 weeks after surgery....lost 45 lbs the first month alone. The first 3 weeks were liquids then the next 3 weeks were purreed foods. I do know others that stayed on solids the whole way through. It's interesting to see the differences. Give your body some time to heal.....What usually happend (from what I can tell) is that your body is going into what's called Ketosis. It thinks you're starving it with the drastic change in the shear amount of food you can consume. Keep pumping in the fluids....it will help - I promise! I'm 15 months out and the ability to eat chicken or beef varies from day to day. I've found that "steamed" seems to work a LOT better than any other way of cooking as it keeps the meats very moist and the "grouch" dosen't complain nearly as much about what I put in it. () This tool works....just be paitent with it. I heard a phrase early on and it's what has kept me going - maybe it will help you. You didn't gain the weight overnight - you're not going to loose it over night. Give it time!!!! Good luck to ya hunny....I hope this helps even a little! Much Dee Dee

I know Dee Dee... I am just frustrated. I go to the boards from people who had surgery when I did..and they are loosing 30-40 lbs their first month, and by my Dr.'s scales I am only down 15. I just want to be like everyone else, lol Thanks for your post....................

Hi Michelle I know how you feel. Sometimes it is very frustrating. I go for weeks not losing a pound then boom, I'm down 5! Somehow, through all these weeks of not losing, I am down 70 pounds. I read an article that said our bodies are not use to being without food and it goes into starvation mode. It feels like it is being starved therefore hangs on to every source of energy it can to store it (for the long winter in mankinds early days when food was scarce****il you are able to up your calories some you may not lose pounds. But it will happen for you, I promise. And Michelle, I stayed away from the boards during my difficult times because I figured people didn't want to hear all my negativity. I sometimes still stay away from posting for the same reason. This has not been easy for me. But when I hear someone say, hey Barb, I was there too, I experienced that, it is such a relief to me! Hey, Michelle... sorry to hear, hon, that you are feeling down. I was wondering where you were. Just to let you know Ihavent lost anything past week 2 either'until last w/end, when all of a sudden I dropped 7 lb. I think everyone is very different and there are lots of variations of "normal' on how we loose weight following WLS. But I have no doubts that it works (the WLS). As for eating I'm staying away from beef completely (per my Dr. instructions) and still sticking to softand mushy foods and soups....however if I chew chikcken really, REALLY well and slow, it does do ok.... and so does cheese. cheese ismy new food of choice. Hang on there.... some people just have harder times at the beginning, but I'm sure you will feel better soon and in a loose weight just like all other people. take care, Rita

WTG on your 7 lbs!!!!!! Thats awesome!!!! I am glad to hear things are going well for you!.... As far as chicken, I got one of those bullets, and it basically looked like chicken paste... took a tatse..and blah.. up! Chicken and I are no longer buddies! My doctor never told me to stay away from beef- did your dr. say why? Talk to you soon! Michelle

Good morning! Sorry to hear you are blue. What type of surgery did you have? I had the RNY. Remember everyone's body reacts different to these type of surgeries. Some will loose quickly so slowly. Make sure you are within your doctor's protocols. Drink lots of water, do not drink sodas or carbonated drinks they will stretch your pouch & you will not loose or you can even gain weight. If you feel you're not doing what you should start all over again with your eating habits like you did right after surgery. Stay on fluids for the 1st week or so and see how your body reacts. Make sure you ask your doctor first before doing this! Wish you the best and you will succeed. You body is just in shock and its trying to make up its mind as to what to do. Stay in touch & take care, it will all fall in place.
