Robin AFB

Hi All, My husband has gotten orders to Robins AFB. I was hoping that I could get some info about the area. Are there any OH members who can give me some info on surgeons in the area for follow up care? I noticed on the Website for Robins, that they only have a medical clinic and I did not see Surgery as one of the specialties. I am also hoping to get some info about housing and what not, we are thinking of buying when we get there, but would like some info if possible. Thanks for all you help guys.... Beth

Hi Beth I live in Macon and my honey works on the base so we will be neighbors! Have you given any thought to where you want to live? What can I do to help? Do you have children? We have a GREAT support group in Warner Robins... I really hope you will join us. As far as surgeons, there are none locally and we have all had to go to the Atlanta area for our surgeries and follow ups. I would be happy to share my doc with you if you are interested. Plus your PCP can do post op testing (checking blood levels, etc.). Please email me, let me know what I can do to help. Or if ya just need an ear Barb

Hey Beth! I live in Warner Robins and work at Robins, AFB. When will you be PCSing into the area? There is a local support group here called Minimees. You can find them in Yahoo groups. There is wealth of info there. As for Surgeons in this area, there is none. Everyone in the Middle Ga area travels up to Atlanta, Augusta, or Columbus....mostly Atlanta though. The base usually sends dependents to the base in Augusta for WLS. I think you will happy with the housing selection here in Warner Robins. The houses are less expensive then the FWB, Hurlburt area. Oh wait a minute...there are several dependents that have had surgery up in Atlanta with Dr Appel. SO I guess the base does both...refer to the Army hospital and up to Atlanta. HUgs, Tonya

Hi Beth As everyone else has told you, your only options for skilled bariatric doctors are in Atlanta and the like. I am an Airforce Dependent and had my surgery this last February in Decatur (right next to Atlanta) with Dr. Appel/Dr. Steinburg. Tricare paid for everything. I get my bloodwork, etc. done on base.
