Urinary Tract Infection

Has anyone had this problem, I am two weeks post op and actually had my two week post op appt at 11am today but they did no blood work or ck of the urine. I did not thnk I really had a problem so I did not push to have the urine ckd but when I got home from work today at 6pm my urine is very dark and looks as though there is blood in it. I have left a msg for a Dr. to call me but it has been an hour and no call back yet. My fever is only 99.6 having some pain in the urinary tract area. What are they going to make me do when they call me? If they call me?????

okay, I might be panicing, some Dr, finally called and said to drink lots of cranberry juice and call my Surgeons office in the morning. So at least I will stop all my worry for the night and drink lots of cranberry juice. je

I have no experience with UTI's but I have heard that eating yogurt helps too Kia 5'9" 284/187/155

Judy, my 6 yr old daughter has them all the time. She has had them on and off since 5 months old, offcourse they did the kidney reflux test and it was negative so thats a plus. She has already had 3 since Oct. 2004. The Dr. says they are inherited, I used to have them alot as a child and they are NO fun, I would actually vomit with mine, but that was probably from the pain. I was always put on antibiotics for mine tho, and it was also discovered that one of my kidneys is smaller than normal as well. Hopefully your Dr. will get you in and get you checked out, let us know how it goes. Hugs, Melissa

I do have a history of these but never had so much blood in my urine before. I have a very large cysts inside my right kidney so it may be more accepitble to infection. I usually have to go on very strong anitbiotics to get rid of these. I guess we will see just what Dr. Duncan's office will do in the morning. This had me so freaked, can't imagine how I would handle a really serious complication! I have really been very fortunate and feeling very good until this and this I am sure will pass. Judy, blood in urine may be a sign of infection and/or stone somewhere in the urinary tract. Do you have to go frequently? when you do , is there sense of urgency? ("gotta go NOW or it'll spill") does it hurt or burn to go? is there tenderness at the very buttom of your abdomen?Is there pain in your back/flanks? You may in fact need to be on antibiotics..... it certainly beats having UTI .... they are no fun....best of luck to you, Rita

Thanks Rita, You were right, I had all these symptoms and sure enough I have an infection probably caused by having had a catheter in the hospital. I am now on an antibiotic that I have to crush but only 1 a day for 5 days so I guess I can get through that. I do feel better already. Je

Judy Hi! Don't stress. I'm now 11 months out and have had urinary track infections at least 3 times since my surgery. Not sure as to why I get it so much but don't worry about it. Guess my resistance to some infections is low. See your doctor, he'll put you on an antibotic and make sure you drink lots of cranberry juice and if you can't handle it go to your nearest drug store and buy AKO Urinary Track Infection Pill. They are made from cranberry juice and you can take them instead of the real juice. You'll be ok, just have to get meds to clear it up. Make sure you drink as much water as you can to flush out the infection as it clears up. Hope this helps!
