How long should I plan to be out of work? I have a corporate job and I am having the Lap RNY hopefully very soon.

I was told one week if it's a light job, 2 if otherwise. Does that help? Good Luck! Gretchen

I also have a corporate office job and I stayed out three weeks. Honestly, I didn't feel like going back to work after one week. After week two, I felt okay and after three weeks I felt pretty good. The important thing is to get this eating and drinking thing figured out and trust me - it takes a little time to establish these good habits. So my advice is to take as much time as you can and spend that time taking care of yourself. This is a life changing event and you shouldn't rush yourself. You have spent weeks and/or months getting ready for this surgery - don't short change yourself in the recovery phase by rushing back to work. Remember, no one will take care of you except you and the work will still be there! Good luck with your surgery!

Hi Shay, I agree with freedom from food. Ask for a least 4 weeks off from work to get adjusted to your new way of life. And you can return sooner if you are ready. I returned to work after 3 weeks of Lap RNY and I had asked for 4 weeks. I was still on pureed food when I returned to work. I planned my meals and water for each work day. Best wishes with your surgery. Tammie G.

I was out of work 2 weeks. Everyday was a little better than the one before and I felt great after the first week. Everyone is a little different though. Hugs and prayers, Theresa

HI SHAY!!! I teach school and I went back a week from the day I had surgery. Was in the hospital from Tuesday-Friday, got home and had my mom help me out. WEnt back the next Wednesday. I guess it just depends on how you are feeling. Take all the time you can if you have the days for it. I didn't have alot of days so, that's why I went back..............also, I felt really good. I hope this helps some!! Hugs, Pam

Shay, I had my surgery on Wed. 8/24/05 and went back to work only 6 hours a day the following Monday. I have a desk job and was careful to get up and down alot so as to not sit for long periods of time at my desk. I felt very good with the exception of a back ache. The eating thing has not been a problem I jsut take my 1/4 cup containers of food to work with me. I plan to go back full time on Tues. after the holiday. So it all depends on how fast you heal. I am very fortunate that I heal very quickly (27 yrs ago when having my c sections my staples had to be removed the day after the c section because they were healing so fast they were embedding themselves in my skin). If you are pretty healthy before sugery you might heal pretty quickly. No harm in taking a couple of weeks, but I was determined to get back on my feet and back to normal. je

I'm returning this Thursday. My energy level is picking back up a little bit. I'm just fighting with some nausea. I would say you would probably like to have about 2 weeks off. But like others are saying...everyone is different.

Hi Shay I was only out of work for 1 week with light duties i.e., no lifting or standing for too long of time. Just take it easy & don't over do it.

I was ready to go back to work after 2 weeks ( Corporate as well)... However, I was not ready for my 1 1/2- 2 hour drive each way. I tried for two days in the third week, but then needed to take the rest of the third week off.
