I only ate about a half a can of cream of mush soup...I think I'm going to DIE! Did I do something wrong?

You had your surgery on the 31st too right? We are suppose to be on clear liquids right now. Cream of mushroom soup is considered a full liquid. We arent suppose to eat that until after day 5. Gotta be careful sweetie! Who was your Dr. again? Hope you are feeling better! Take care.

All Dr's are different. I did not have to be on clear liquids. I was on liquids, cream soups and grits for the first 2 weeks.

Most likely NOT dumping, but what they call "stuck" It happens if you drink too muchm or drink too fast. They told me one ounce should take me 5 minutes..

Wow. Rough night. That wasn't dumping? What does 'stuck' mean? Is it something serious? I also figured out that the soup was supposed to be fat-free, which it wasn't. Lesson learned, eh? Thanks. Gretch

Good Morning! Hope you're feeling better. More than likely the soup was just too heavy for your new stomach to accept. You can have certain foods do that to you. I'm 11 months out and still experience, gas, nausea & dumping every once in a while. I know my stomach can not accept any type of foods that are to heavy like thick soups, gravies, sauces, etc. You can also dump or get sick if you eat or drink your fluids too fast. Remember you just had surgery your new stomach has not even healed. Stay on light fluids. For the 1st 2 weeks for me were runny grits, runny oatmeal, popcycles sugar free. Just take your eating & drinking really slow. I still have a hard time doing that and when I do eat or drink too fast, I pay for it by dumping or just feeling miserable. Other than me doing the wrong thing to make me feel bad or get sick I am doing quite well. 11 mts out, down from 310lbs to 159, size 26/28 to a 10/8. You're just starting your new journey in this life. Take it slow and easy. Give your self time to heal. As far as laying on your side. I do and had no problems. Take care keep in touch and email me if you need or have any questions. More importantly if you have problems no matter how small call your doctor first to make sure everything is in order. Take care! Karen I. [email protected]

I think you're right, though I hope I'll be over this 'learning how to eat' thing sooner than later. One problem I seem to be having is that I feel hungry. I feel like I need to eat, but nothing I eat satisfies it and I know if I eat more than recommended, I'll get miserable again. I'm learning. Thanks for the support. Gretchen [email protected]

Hi Gretchen.. I too had Obesity Solutions...Dr. Richard. I was allowed creamy's after one week. However, this is going to be a time of trial and error for you. You will DEFINITELY find out what you CAN and CANNOT tolerate in the coming months. Make sure when you try something new, you are at home, and not in public just in case. Good luck to you dear. G-O S-L-O-W....little bitty bits at a time...

The best piece of advice I was given (besides going really slow, with tiny bites) is to drink something warm/hot before eating. Tea didn't taste good my first few days home, so I actually have been starting my day with warm water. Sounds like an old lady, I know, but it seems to open up the pouch. Gotta work to keep that pouch happy at first! I'm just under 3 weeks out and still learning. Glad to have so many smart folks who are paving the way to teach us all! Hang in there! Carolyn D.
