I need some words of encouragement!!!!
I just came from my pcp, the guy seemed to be supportive of the wls at first. now he keeps telling me that i want be approved because i don't have all of the dangerous co-morbid conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. i told him what i do have is chronic asthma, metobolic syndrome, joint pain(knees and lower back) and depression. i'm taking medication for each. and i have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, obesity and the list goes on. i went to him today because i found out by calling the insurance company and having them fax me the criteria for the wls that i will need 3 months of a supervised diet. we have been discussing my weight issue and diets everytime i came into his office but he only has it documented for some of the months so now i have to go another month before i have 3 consecutive months. He said he was trying to help me but it's not up to him. i just don't meet the requirements the insurance company is looking for. so i said what do yall want, for me to get diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. so to be rambling so much but this is really getting to me because i have tried any and everything to lose this weight. i'm 5'6" weighting 253 pounds. i just want to have a better quality of life.
Thanks for listening.

First of all depending on your insurance not all people who qualify for WLS have co-morbidities. There are a lot of them who didn't and still got approved. You just have to go through the process of all the hurdles and such to get the information to your insurance company and then have them respond and if it is a denial that is not the end there are appeals and such---everything worth having is worth fighting for and your insurance company may approve things from the beginning no one can answer that one but them. However my surgeon's office did the filing on my behalf once I got the paperwork together will yours do the same???
Keep us posted and do not give up---
Hugs and prayers,
Theresa
yes my surgeon's office will be doing the filing on my behalf. i have every thing done so far except for the 3 months diet history. When i went for my consultation they said i qualified for the wls. i don't know what his problem was because he has always been supportive.
Thank you for listening

If this is what you want, YOU CAN DO THIS! I had my surgery with a bmi of about 41 (just over the min) and no co-morbidities really to speak of. It is the INSURANCE company who will tell you if you qualify or not according to their guidelines. If your doctor told you you qualify at first, and nothing has changed why wouldn't you qualify now? I would just keep doing your doctor supervised visits then get your paperwork together after you have completed your requirements. You can do it! (hugs).

DO NOT GIVE UP! My PCP wasn't surportive at all when I first approached him, but after I casually metioned to his nurse that I was determined to have the surgery and would really hate having to switch to another doctor, his attitude changed. Sometimes they just have to see that you are committed to doing what is necessary to improve your health. You have the right to determine your own destiny, and I commend you for taking this step to improve your quality of life. There are a lot of bumps in the road, but just keep on keeping on, and look to the wonderful people on this board for a little lift when you are down.

I didn't have ANY comorbidities and was approved simply on FAMILY HISTORY! It sounds like you have PLENTY of family history to use....
DOn't give up hope - make your Doctor understand you don't want to develop those problems.
DO you have any proof of any other diets you've been on failing (Jenny Craig, weigh****chers etc?) those are considered supervised....
We'll keep you in our prayers!

Yes i do have plenty of history of weight problems. i have been to weigh****chers and Metaslim both are supervised diet. i guess i can wait to have it docucumented throught my pcp. each time i have been in his office we discussed my weight but he didn't have it documented for July. so now i will have to wait until October to see him again.
Thanks for all the prayers
