Also checking in about the last supper binges...I did gain about 7 pounds, but I went to my post op on Tues. and it was fine. Dr. Proctor said he expected it and just to keep excercising and up my water. I am still only at 36.4 BMI so I was lucky to get approved. I think I got into some bad habits trying to GAIN weight. How crazy! but I'll be having my wls on Wed. and I'm very nervous. What's it like and what should I bring? I've heard the gas is hard to take, is there any way to eliminate the discomfort? I really appreciate that you are all here, and I look forward to getting to know you all. (I'll have a pic up soon) Thanks! Gretchen

Congrats on your surgery. I wish you the best. I wouldn't take too much to the hospital. I kept the hospital gown on the whole time just because it was easier with the IV. I would take a robe and slippers because they will have you up walking the halls. I would also take some chap stick because you can't really have anything to eat or drink the first day. The gas can be very painful. Mine lasted about 2 weeks. I took Gas-X, walked a lot and used a heating pad which really helped. I can understand you being nervous but you will be fine. They surgery isn't too bad. The worst part for me was the emotional part so make sure you surround yourself with people who support you. It took me a few months to adjust emotionally. No one warned me about this part so just know that if you have emotional days that it does get better. I will send good thoughts to you and your doctor. Let us know how it goes. Take care, Bonnie

Thank you...but can you elaborate on the emotional adjustment? I just feel euphoric about losing all this weight...wasn't aware of any emotional pitfalls...

Gretchen, I do agree with Bonnie about taking the chap stick to the hospital. Don't take any nightgowns, as the hospital gowns are very sufficient. But you will also want to take some house slippers for when you do your walking. The best way to eliminate the gas, is to walk, walk, and walk some more. Soon you will be on the losing side!! Enjoy the ride...there will be ups (losing weight) and downs (plateaus), but so far it has been great!! Norma

I just got home yesterday. I didn't take much either...just some clothes to wear home, slippers and a robe. I just wore the gown they gave me. As far as the gas goes...with me...it seems only time and moving help. It is much better than it was, but it is still there. I'm able to drink a bit more easily now. I'm struggling to drink enough. Good luck on your journey. We are all rooting for you.

Thank you. Right now I'm hoping they even DO the surgery... I seem to be battling a teensy bit of the FLU. keep praying for me if you are!

Ok.. so maybe I am different- didnt need chapstick, but I was all over putting on some sweat pants and a t-shirt. I had my first shower, day 2 ....and no more bottom flashing from this woman Bring your hygine things....if you like your own clothes bring them as well- it personally really helped me get comfy! ohhh... GOOD LUCK!
