Employers need to Know!!! (kinda long)

Hi Everyone: I was thinking even as open enrollment approaches at my employer....they need to hear from me! I was lucky that my employer chose to pick up a WLS surgery rider from BCBS but how many people out there need the surgery and their employer wont cover it? So I decided that I am going to write a letter to my employer and let them know of my success with having WLS! I know they typically only hear from people who are wanting the surgery and asking about coverage--why shouldnt I write a letter to whomever in HR makes the decisions about our coverage? Maye it is someone who only looks at it from a dollars and cents perspective. Maybe if I write a letter to them and let them put a human perspective with the procedure it may help them keep the coverage? Who knows? It couldnt hurt! So I challenge each of you who have had WLS to also write to your HR dept or employer and let them know how you are doing and what the surgery has done for you. Epsecially if they didnt cover it to begin with, maybe it would help them to see why they should consider covering it. I feel we post ops have a responsibility to help out others who want the surgery to keep it covered by insurance! Let's write those letters and try to make a difference! Kelly S

Kelly I think that is a great idea (my company's insurance will not cover wls)! I do hope that this will change soon! I had all of my appointments set up and ready to go then found out they will not cover it! Kristin
