Is that me???????
Luane,
I didn't take a lot of PICS right after post op the first time (this time getting ready for repair I am starting now pre op and gonna keep track). But when I had Christmas pictures during a family party (surgery was July 7, 93) when we got the roll back I didn't even recognize myself! Really! I was going through it, "There's a picture of Adam", "There's your dad", "Who is that with your Mom?" and I looked closer and it was ME! I almost fell over. I still remember like it was yesterday.
My pre op the first time had been 320 and size 24 -26 usually. By Christmas time, five and a half months post op, I had to go buy new clothes. My FIRST shopping post op for new clothes. I had just been making due with my old stuff. I was a stay home mom with two toddlers, four and a half and three year olds. I got stirrup pants and a nice navy plaid cardigan with a collar at Montgomery Wards for the party. Sweater was a medium misses and stirrups were a size 10 but I really didn't "think" about it. I still remember how ODD it felt when I went shopping and started looking at clothes and the sales woman came over to me and said "Ma'am, you need to be over in the Misses section, this is the womens plus sizes." I can still feel the blush in my cheeks. It took SO LONG to retrain in my mind I was no longer a large woman.
Looking at yourself in photos post op is incredible! Make sure NEVER get rid of the before PICS as well. It's something that even though we don't need reminders of it is actually comforting for the long road we traveled and a part of what shapes us into who we are inside. Now it matches our outside
