This Week Is Finally Over
Not really a WHOLE LOT new this week other than I have gotten sicker
My GI sent me over to Coosa Diagnostic Friday afternoon about 2PM, severe thunderstorm going on for a CT Scan because he has a feeling my stoma had finally abscessed on me. I can't leave the house
because even though I am on total liquids until I get in the OR that I am not able to leave the bathroom to even walk out on my porch.
Well, we managed to make it to the clinic and they expected me to actually DRINK and keep down 2 - 2 liter bottles of barium!!! On a GOOD day It would take me TWO days to drink it in one sitting! Why is it people can't COMPREHEND the stoma on a WLS post op patient isn't even REMOTELY like a 'normal' person!
My GI's assistant called me on my cell as I sat outside the clinic waiting for them to 'decide' what to do with me and she said 'just go home and I'll get you into Redmond medical on an emergency basis tomorrow and get you passed the ER visit and get it done' She KNOWS I'd rather rip off my right arm and beat myself senseless than go to Floyd Medical but that of course was the ONLY option on a weekend and a holiday weekend at that! So of course I accepted it and went. Tech finally got me back on the table about 10AM (appt was set for 9AM) I told him I am severely dehydrated even though all I have had for over three weeks is liquid and thank goodness he listened, found a decent vein and got me on the first try for the IV. However he didn't check to make sure the cap was on tight for the iodine and I got one heck of a 'bath' in it, LOL, I laugh because I am at a point where all of this (my 'life') is quite amusing' by now.
Finally got the scan done and DR called me within an hour of my leaving. I now have developed not an abscess but a mighty good infection in my stoma, the little I do try to eat (he told me at least try to get something solid in you') is NOT exiting my stoma into my intestines and becoming infected. And also anything that does get down into my intestines is also becoming infected. Hence causing my diarrhea.
So we are now on antibiotics, I have to go in his office Tuesday and talk again about admitting me and putting me on a straight feeding tube until Emory can get me in! Wonder if Emory is just waiting for me to go away and then when it's too late to inform my husband then they can do something.
