Energy dive...

OK, I am 3 months post op and have been doing TERRIFIC. I have recently started having the difficulty sleeping at night and HUGE energy dives in the evening. I mean it feels like my head is 1 ton. I had blood drawn by my PCP and he only found that my Cholesterol is a little high. I admit that I have slacked off on the protein a bit, I get about 40 grams a day most days and sometimes I hit the 70 g mark. But, I used to be really anal about getting a 30 g smoothie in the morning, a 20 g lunch and 20-30 at dinner every day. Now I am not so crazy about it.... Is protein the energy issue? Do I need to take the protein religiously to keep the energy up? I didn't think I'd feel it. Well, anyway, thanks for your input folks.

Have your doctor check your vitamin and B12 levels. Protein is used for energy - but remember you are still fairly new as a post op and getting in 70 G a day is a good amount. You do need to make sure you're taking multi vitamins daily and that you follow your doctors regiment - but the best suggestion I can make is call your doctor. Good luck with it and let us know how the outcome is! Dee Dee

I agree, you need to have your B12 checked. Sometimes when my energy is lacking my doctor said it was ok to take an extra B12 shot which really helps boost my energy. ~Bonnie

Derrick, I am in the same boat as you for dates. I had my surgery a day before yours. I have the energy dives as well. At night when I lay down, I have gotten to the point I dont hear my husband come to bed anymore. My job is not an exhausting one, I just write care plans for the nursing home and supervise so it doesnt take a lot out of me. Guess that is why I do all my exercising in the mornings when I feel better. I went to the dr on monday and he drew my labs so hopefully I will find out when is going on. I am guess though it is my B12...might increase to 2 shots a month instead of one...woohoo more needles. Try to take an extra b12 and see how that works. If your body doesnt need it, it will just excrete it out in your urine. It wont harm you at all. Let me know what you find out and I will let you know too. D'Lynn 232/181

Hey Dirrick, My suggestion is to take the B12 sublingual that walmart sells made by Rexall. I take 500mcs every other day. I used to get the shot but it didn't last me all month and I find that this keeps it in my system and works much better for me. This is just a suggestion hope it helps NAT

Thank you all... I had my blood drawn a few weeks back and my B12 was fine (my doc gave me a shot anyway, to be sure) and everything else was in order. I broke down and got some Ambien and it helps to get sleep. I'm not taking it for too many days so I don't become a junkie. But I feel much better now than I did Monday. I really hurt myself at the gym Sunday, I got on the eliptical trainer for 12 minutes (at 334 lbs) and I realy hurt my leg muscles... I'm thinking that it affected my physically and mentally, because I am feeling much better between sleep, getting back on track with my 70 grams of protein intake, and healing from the eliptical (I swam today and felt great... no more eliptical for a few more months).
