Here goes another one. I am trying to loose weight before surgery. I found out that the doctor asks that you do that. While I am waiting for approval I decided to change my eatting to more like what I will eat post op (after you go back to solid foods). I have lost six pounds so far. I have reduced my fat, carb and salt intake. I am also trying to increase my fluid intake. I am eatting slower trying to really chew and not gulp my food down. I have taken refined sugar and flower out and am eating complex carbs like brown rice. At my nutrition eval I was told I didn't eat enough protein so, I have started eating Tofu, chicken, and much more baked fish. I have only been at it for a week now. Anyone have any good ideas. Is this how I should expect to eat post op? I know that your stomach is so sensitive after surgery and everyone is different, but does this sound like I am on the right track?

Muan, Yes you are headed in the right direction, other than the fact you cant have raw veggies like salad for 6 months, and no rice either for 6 months. Of course, this is just my plan from my dr, so yours may be different. Most of the diet consists of kind of Atkins..high protein. Rachel told me not to worry so much about the carbs because you need that for energy, because your calorie intake will be cut way way down. We are supposed to get in 600 cals a day, and it is really hard to get that it. If you really want some help with keep track of it, go to fitday.com...they have a great way of keeping track of food, exercise, and graphing your weight, best part is its free. Hope this helps. Muan Mazy, Do not ever be sorry about posting questions, dear. I learn so much from other peoples questions, so keep em comin'! I am about 1 month out and am still eating soup, low sugar yogurt, sf popsicles and am just now getting enough liquids in. Eating has been really difficult for me. I have been told every 2 hours, even if its just a few tablespoons of something. This had helped aleve some of the nausea. Everyone is so different, all you can do is take one day at a time. You are doing something right with your new eating habits lady! Way to go on the weight loss!! For some great recipes try firstplace.org and bariatricbytes. Theres also a cooking forum here on this website. High protein is really vital (and its kicking my rear!). sigh... one day at a time... Keep up the great work! Barb

You seem to be on the right track And the 6 lb. weight loss also seems to point in the right direction. Grats on the weight loss! I know it's not easy by any means. I do know that some folks have problems with rice postop (due to the carbs) but I have not had any problems with it. Kia 284/209/155 ish
