SURGERY SET FOR TUESDAY!
I submitted a post just minutes ago, and now it is missing? I didn't say anything offensive, so I can't figure out why it isn't on here? Anyway..........my surgery date is Tuesday the 28th @ Emory Dunwoody 7:30am. I am really nervous, and need prayers please! I also would love to hear about the best protein drinks, and any other things I need to take or be prepared to have with me at the hospital. Thank you guys for your support, and encouragement!

Hi Karen
I had surgery on the 8th of June... same hospital, same doctor, same surgery time!... except there was a delay and I didn't get my surgery until around noon...
They are a very efficient and professional bunch there... and it made me more confortable being in such a atmosphere... they totally know what they are doing!
The cool part is that you don't have to do anything... and the next thing you know you wake up in recovery.... ta da!
You'll do great... and congratulations on this decision... it's a good one

Hi Karen,
Praying for you and wishing you an uneventful surgery and a quick recovery.
Your first few weeks you need to worry more about staying hydrated. Broth, sugar free popsicles, any clear liquid you can get and keep down. My docs diet doesn't even start the protein until 2 weeks out. Then I used Atkins ready made. He recomend the carb options carnation instant breakfast.
For the hospital, I never even opened my suitcase. The hospital had everything including a little pack with a comb and toothbrush. Those are the only 2 things I used in the hospital. I slept and walked a bit and slept some more.
Remember it may be a slow process getting back to anything close to feeling normal after surgery. Everyone is different and it is all normal. Keep posting and suck up all the support you can from these wonderful people here on the board!
God's Blessings to you Karen,
Barb
Karen , Don't be nervous (thats what I am trying to tell myself.) I will say as many prayers for you that I have.As you know I am sure you have wanted this for a long time as also for me . Only good things can happen after this. As I always say Live, Love, And Laugh. As much as you can. Live for now not the future .We are all given ups and downs it's how we deal and act on them is how we remain true to ourselves .so I belive everything well be great and if you need someone to talk to email me....Beth
Hi, Karen! You're in my prayers. I was nervous too...even tried to back out of it after the operation...not because of pain, but because of fear. When I reached down and realized it was over, I was shocked!
I love Pro-Score 100, chocolate. Many folks recommend Unjury, but I haven't tried it. If I get tired of mine, that's what I'm buying next.
For the hospital, I bought pjs that pull over (couldn't use them because of the IVs, also didn't want to mess them up with bandage leakage, etc.) and a robe (took it back for a refund). The hospital gowns were fine. They were baratric-sized! Things I used were:
deodorant
toothpaste
toothbrush
brush
hair band to hold hair out of face when washing, etc.
CHAPSTICK
body splash (I am very sensitive to smells.)
something loss-fitting to wear home (wish I had taken a sweater or jacket)
slippers
Just two more days...we're here for you!
Love,
Becky
Hi Karen:
I join the others in holding you in my heart & prayers.
I had my lap RNY at Emory Dunwoody and it was a great facility with incredibly wonderful nurses.
My office is nearby & I'm a hospital-trained chaplain as well as coach, so I'll give you a call in the late afternoon to see how you're doing. Maybe on Wed. it may be OK if I visit you. I'll let you tell me.
Enjoy the gift of this journey of transformation!
Lovingly,
Lauralyn
