OK, now I have a question ...
We went and talked to a different surgeon yesterday and after a three hour conversation he has told us that yes, I will have to have RNY as a corrective matter but that the coding is different because it is not so much RNY but a gastric procedure for my health due to my Condition. He says we can get it through as a gastric operation (after my bariatric coverage is canceled next week) due to the fact not that I have gained some of my weight back but I have lost 40 pounds since the New Year without trying, have a high elevated white count due to the foreign object (the band) in my stoma, I have had a fever since day before Memorial Day and the leakage could cause a massive infection in my system, that we need to explore the internal reason why I am vomiting and have terrible diarrhea and am now on liquids only (a week today since solid food). The surgeon tells me I need to have my surgery either at Emory or the University of Alabama because mine is going to be an ALL DAY procedure, with high chances of complications, 15 -20% chance I may die on the table (although doing nothing at all to make my belly right guarantees my death) and therefore I need a teaching facility where there will be a large amount of residents/surgeons in the OR with me. (And the shrink joked with me about my anxiety level being high on my PAI test, LOL, 'Ya think I have anything to be anxious about?')
My question is this. We have jumped through so many hoops and done a horse and pony show for Emory and not to get into a lot of details other than the lack of bedside manner of their staff to the way one of their doctor's is rude to my long time doctor here (don't ask, I wont go into it) but how in God's name am I supposed to trust these people with my life now? The surgeon isn't the problem, it's the staff ... if I am being made to feel this crappie PREAPPROVAL and PREOP than what can I expect afterwards? I just don't know WHAT to do!
Hey Lisa me again... Maybe you can go up there to Emory and speak the surgeon's nurse in person. They talk to people over the phone all day long and sometimes we are just another voice they can blow off. If you are there in their faces, they cannot deny you.
Maybe if you go and say look I am in pain as we speak and I need to be seen, maybe that would work...I don't know I am just guessing. Please don't think I am saying to go and act up....lol.
It is just that you sound like you need them to take you seriously and fast! No more red tape. I had to jump through those hoops at Emory too and when I did all of my jumps they dropped the last hoop and that is the part that gets you the most. I understand. You may have hit the nail on the head.. it isn't the doctor it that customer service staff. My only thought is get up close and in personal. It's Lisa Live and I'm going to smile and be sweet, and throw suga all over whom ever at Emory, but I ain't going nowhere until you people get it right.
I wish you the best....

At this point the personality of the Doc, Staff, or whoever isn't that important. You NEED the BEST SURGEON! As serious as this surgery is I would want the person that my doctor would want to do the surgery if He had to have it.... I know rude people are a pain to deal with but Emory has a reputation of being the best medical facillity in GA. It's your call but if my life depended on it that is were I would go (or to Dr. Duncan at Atlanta Medical Center) but at this point I would get moving at Emory ASAP
