Please let me know if anyone out there has had problems with anxiety and nervousness post-op? Is this normal, and when (and/if) should it subside? I am talking about not being able to get comfortable or be still for long. Please help. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have heard that the first few weeks can be rough emotionally for some folks. I am beginnning to believe this. Sincerely, LMW

Yes, I went to my first one pre-op and enjoyed it very much. I talked with the nurse and she told me that some folks have more anxiety than others. I had some complications and had to come home with a drain in place for a few days. I think once it is removed, I will do better with this. It is very, very difficult to get comfortable with it in. I was wondering what other folks experiences were. Thank you so much for your response and reminder. When is the next support group at Redmond? Isn't it the first Monday of the month at 6 p.m.? I think I remember hearing this. God Bless you. LMW

It is very normal! My doc put me on Prozac a month ahead for that very reason. You may want to ask your PCP or another doc to give you something temporarily. This will pass! Hugs, Becky

Becky, thanks so much for the encouragement. I have taken your advice with my surgeon's office. It has and is been quite a journey so far. I want to come out on the other end soon! with new hope! Thanks again.

Well, from my own expierence, it was more like the first 6 months for me! I didn't take anything for my anxiety, but looking back now, I wish that I would have. For me, I think that it had alot to do with hormones, and my body adjusting to getting so few calories. The hardest thing for me, was that there were two me's. The outside me, losing weight, looking better, more energy. Then there was/is the inside me, still feeling fat, not knowing how to handle all this weight loss, and scared to death that it will stop. Go to your doctor and tell him how you are feeling, if anything can help you, go for it. Hindsight is 20/20 and I wish that I would have said something because I know that it was pretty hard to live with me for awhile! Good Luck, Cathy

Also, if you are not on anti-anxiety meds prior to surgery, being aware of the possible need for these after may enable the individual to avoid this discomfort afterwards. You are dealing with so much. I think this can happen even if you are the type of person that never needed this type of med before. It has so much to do with what our bodies have went through and are adjusting to! I also notice that I have been able to get more rest. I think that was my biggest problem---lack of sleep!!! I was sent hope with Reglen (to keep bowl function operating properly), pain meds, and anti-nausea meds. THe only missing one was the anti-anxiety. The other meds I have only had to use once or twice. I guess each person is different, but sometimes the pain meds can make you feel awful. Just some thoughts!!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, LMW
