Have any teachers been approved?

I am a teacher, and I just called my insurance company and was told that they do not cover WLS. I have United Healthcare through State Health Benefit Plan. The representative said that WLS was not included in the contract the state has with United Healthcare. Does anyone know who I can contact to try and persuade them to include WLS in the contract OR does SHBP cover the surgery? I also want to know if there are any teachers who have been approved through this insurance company, and if so, how did you do it?

I am a teacher-but not under a state plan. I know others who have had UNC fro mthe state-exclusions didn't allow them to have surgery. You would have to contact your HR person. Open enrollment is over...I think they are doing a re-enrollment at the end of this calendar year.

Yes, I know of a Teacher in the chatham county system that had it..........................
