Big prayers for you gal! I can understand why you are so nervous. The thought scares me too! I think my gall bladder may be going too....I'm very nervous and hope that it holds on until after the wedding. What kind of symptoms have you been having? Hugs, Tonya

it started with a dull ache in my right side right under the rib cage area. I wound up in the ER with a really sharp pain in my side that was taking my breath away. The pain has managed to work it's way from the front side to the back side now...and has deepend in my side. I've not had any of the nausea or vomiting that has been said is normal.... My doctor has said I could put this off as long as I can stand the pain....but I'm openly admitting I'm a WUSS!!!! Gall bladder problems are VERY common after this surgery for several reasons, Rapid weightloss, being female, and if you've ever taken birth control are all high risk factors. This is going to be a Lap procedure and being done out paitent so I'm hoping it won't be a big deal - but any surgery has it's risks so my nerves are higher. I'm also worried about what the after effects I will have as far as food limitations or possibly having it ease some of my restrictions of what I can have.....(Too many questions that no one can answer till I go through it...) Thanks for the prayers....if you feel any symptoms don't be afraid to ask your doctor about them. Once the gall bladder goes bad there's nothing really they can do to save it....but it "dosen't hurt" you to have it out supposedly. Much Dee Dee

A quick guide to the gallbladder: The liver produces Bile which emulsifies fat (breaks it down) so the body can absorb it. The bile from the liver is stored in the gallbladder where it stays until you need it. When you eat foods (especially foods rich in fat) the gallbladder contracts and squirts bile into your small intestines where it mixes with your foods and helps digestion. My doctor did not know why rapid weight loss tends to cause gallstones, but it is a proven fact that most folks who lose a large amount of weight quickly will develop gallstones. You can live just fine without your gallbladder, but you may have more problems digesting fatty foods. Lastly, I wish you the best and a quick and uneventful surgery/recovery! I figure it will be a matter of time before mine goes too (lol). My sister in law put it this way, "Either you get it (gallbladder) out when you have WLS, or you get it taken out later down the road!" She is a surgeon in Mobile, Alabama and I always ask her for advice. If I had the choice, I would have had my gallbladder remvoed at the time they did the WLS, but since my surgery was done lap, they said they only gave you the option to have it removed if you have your surgery open, so I still have my gallbladder for now. Good Luck with the gall bladder surgery. I had mine removed when they did the gastric bypass. Was tickled when I awoke to find out Dr. Hart had removed it also. I had been having trouble with it for yrs so I knew it needed to come out. When Dr. Hart came out and spoke to my family he told them that my gall bladder was in horrible shape. Was very fortunate that I knew that going in and had him aware of it. My gb and gall bladder were both removed lap. So my recovery was altogether. I pray that yours will be uneventful and that in a couple of days that you will be up running again. Patrice Rogers

I asked my doctor why they don't just go ahead and remove it at the time of surgery and he said that the state of Ga has an issue with doctors reving things that aren't in poor condition. My gall bladder prior to WLS was in good shape so he couldn't remove it - even with me asking him to. So I now get to have the GB removed. Luckily he's doing it LAP so I should be back on my feet rather quickly!!! (Crossing my fingers) I know a LOT of people have to have it out after surgery - so I'm greatful that a lot of people know and understand what I'm going through. I'm still nervous - as with any surgery there are risks even if they are minimal!!! Thanks for the support - I will keep everyone posted when I know what's happening!!!!!! Much Dee Dee

Dee Dee, Dont worry about the foods you can and cant have after surgery. They shouldnt be much different then what you can have now. I had my gall bladder out before my GB and didnt have any problems with foods. My friend had it done and cant eat spicey, fried or greasy foods without dumping shortly after wards. It is all dependent on your body. Also, so people become lactose intolerant after the surgery too. Coming from a nurse, take my word for it, it all depends on your body. If it truely isnt working now, then your body is already adjusting to working without it, so some things you already know what you can handle and not handle. D'Lynn 232/186 another friggin 2 lbs....took long enough...lol. P.S. You will be in my prayers girl, you will do fine I promise.
