question about drain tubes

Hi i'm very knew at this computer but i have a question about drain tubes.Some surgeans don't use them at all and others do.Why is this?Don't you need one?

I think the surgeon makes that decision.... I had one, but it was removed 2 days after the surgery... I never even noticed it at all... until they removed it

Shelly, Hi Hun, The drain tubes that you are referring to are JP tubes. One is usually used to drain the excessive fluid to prevent a hematoma. That is a pocket of fluid, they are generally taken out by your surgeon on the day of doscharge. Hope this helps. Have a nice evening~ Crece

I had a drain tube for a week after surgery - - but that was because they had to do a lot more cutting through my adhesions to complete the operation. I am the exception to the rule Kia 284/215/155 ish

Kia, i also have some adhesions so i guess the doc will know whether i need a drain tube.thank you for your reply to my question.

Hey Shelly, Please, please, please remember... no question is a dumb one!! I did not have a drain tube... maybe because I had my surgery open? I'm not sure. One thing I have learned is that every doctor is so different. Either way, rest assure your doc will do whats best for you. Nice to see you posting, this website is the best. Barb
