Good morning everyone. I hope everyone got a good nights sleep. I need some help friends. A friend of mine had the gastric banding back in 1986 and now it seems that things are starting to slip. She has considered having RNY, but some of the doctors she has talked to wont even look at her. She really would like to have this done, but because of the negative feed back in the past from doctors, she has almost givin up. Now, ya'll have come through for me in the past when I was looking for a doctor, so i am asking for alot of good feed back. Can someone please give me a name and number of a good doctor who will do the RNY after some has had the band? Come on peoples, talk to me. God bless ya'll. Ken

I also have a friend who had the same problem, I spoke to my surgeon on my last visit, and he said that he would at the very least evaluate her to see if he felt if she was appropriate for him to revise her 1987 Gastric Banding surgery, and see if he felt he could do the surgery. He said that it would require some testing to see what kind of condition the original surgery had left things in. Any way, my surgeon is Dr. John P. Daly, in Atlanta. I recommend him higly to anyone who is interested in this surgery. He is very up front and honest, and would atleast give someone the consideration to evaluate them, not just say.... 'No way would I even consider touching anyone who has had this surgery in the past'. It is atleast worth a try in my opinion. Good Luck to your friend! Susan

Dr Burrowes is at Atlanta Medical Center. 678-904-1606. He did my revision, but charges $4500 plus out of pocket on revision patients. He will not do a simple RNY on revisions...only does Fobi Pouch RNYs. Good luck!

Hi Ken, I went for my 2 week check up today and chatted with a lady there who is scheduled for a revision on wednesday. My doctor does the fobi-pouch so that is what she's having done (I saw it mentioned in another post). The Doc is Clarence Hixon, 404-265-3333. What a good friend you are to gather up references Hey, let me know how your day goes tomorrow. It's sure to be a long one but a drive to Dublin is always relaxing to me. God's Blessings to you... Hey Barb, How are you feeling? Well, i went to have my upper GI and my ultra sound ( that was nasty, the upper GI). I wasn't able to go Dublin. She called me and changed my appt. to today ( 13 June ). I will let you know tomorrow how my visit with her goes. Are you healing better now? have you lost anymore weight? The lady I am getting info for got a little upset when a couple of doctors told her to forget it or they won't even talk to her. I don't mind doing this for her, she is a sweet woman. Well I guess I had better get to work. Ken

uhg... I can only imagine. After surgery you have to have a leak test and that was pretty horrible. I was wondering if you'd feel like the drive down to meet with Valerie. But thats one more thing behind you!! I'm glad my doc didn't require it! I am down to 291 this morning. I think I sat on 293 for a week! So that is a loss of 31 pounds. The greatest thing is I lost 5 inches in my waist already! I've been treadmilling 2 times a day for 10 minutes each time but I need to get it up to 30 minutes. I just get bored mostly. Plus I get a lil swimmy headed. I still have nausea issues bad, I can't get anything solid down (like a scrambled egg) but I have discoverd smashed potatoes go down well so I put some cottage cheese in it and top with cheddar to get the protein up, plus lets face it. It taste pretty yummy too! You know how everyone says this surgery is just a tool Ken. It is so true. You still have to decide what you put in your mouth and to learn to say I've had enough and push the plate away. I found myself eating a whole container of yogurt the other day even tho THE POUCH was saying I've had enough. I ended up feeling like yuck but the worse thing was I didn't even care for the taste. Old habits are hard to break. I was thinking of the lady in my docs office. She said she needed a revision because her first surgery didn't work. Her 1st doc (Dr Appel) told her it didn't work because she over ate and didn't eat right. She had lost 80 pounds but said it all came back. Now THATS scarey! Its gonna take determination and brains to do this right but I am determined! And I know you are too! With support... we will do great! You know I am pulling for you! Hope this beautiful day holds out for your ride down to Dublin. Be safe. Barb
