Hi all, I am new to this board and have really enjoyed reading a lot of the posts here and am SO glad that there is a place like this for us! I am currently having big problems financially and have been denied from BCBS - Blue Choice of GA because WLS is a written exclusion on my policy. So.....there is no way that I can afford to have the surgery and was wondering if anyone here might know what that qualifications for getting Medicaid are? I read the post about the lady who went to Mexico and had the surgery but that sounds way to scary for me. I've heard that there are "charity" groups at many hospitals that can help out with the bills but like many folks here I just want to explore any options that are out there. Thanks! Julie

Hi Julie, sorry for the late reply. I had GreatWest Insurance initially when I was working, had a lot of problems trying to get the surgery approved, in 03/04 I was hospitalized for cardiac problems, then laid off of work 04/30/04. Due to my unemployment and medical needs, I was approved for Medicaid 05/04, saw the surgeon 06/04.....had a tentative approved surgery dat 07/09/2005, pending psychological eval (covered by medicaid) Nutritional eval (not covered $75.00). Surgery was scheduled for 09/04, but due to gaining additional weight my surgeon cancelled surgery. I lost the weight I had gained and had surgery 10/04. I did not have to deal with Medicaid other than when I initially applied. The doctor's office was wonderful. One word of caution, I am not sure if you can be approved for Medicaid if your husband is able to insure you. Much luck to you. /J/
