Does anyone have any information on meds or methods to relieve gas discomfort after...
Hi all, I have an upcoming date for my surgery. However, I continue to hear many questions regarding what to do about gas discomfort experienced after surgery. It seems many folks experience this. However, I never seem to see any helpful suggestions to help with this. Is this something that must just be endured? Does everyone always experience this discomfort who has WLS? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery date!!!
As far as the gas pains associated with this surgery, it helps to know the source of this gas. When you have this surgery done laprascopically, they inflate the abdomen with a gas to be able to see around the belly better. Then when the surgery is done, they deflate the belly back. However some of this gas remains in the abdomen. This is the gas that gives us so much pain. It is not typical intestinal gas, but you will have some of that as well. The best solution for this gas pain is walking... Walk as much as you can stand of it. while you will be sore, it truely does help in moving the gas around. And while I hear alot of folks say they didn't have much pain, or need their pain meds much, I am a firm believer in using that pain meds pump. It will make the walking and getting up and down much easier on you.
Good Luck to you on your surgery. And remember, the pain doesn't last forever, and it will go away. Plus, if your doctor sends you home with a drain (many do, but some don't) know that when that drain is removed, which is usually withing the first week or so, that you will immediately feel 100% better. and then you can start looking at better days.

I am now 8 mts out, down to 183lbs, size 16/14. Everything will be alright with you when you have your surgery. I do and have experienced gas issues sometimes I use malox, or gas ex which helps. My surgery went great only problems I had for a little while was nausea and gas pain which did not last long and I am fine now I can eat most foods. I took it to the hospital and almost everyone I know takes it with them. I include this in the gift bags I make for people. This is a plus. Hec****ep some in my drawer and in my car for emergency till this day. It helped me and many I know. It also depends on how bad it is, where its located and how well you tolerate pain. Never the less remember this word.... This is a must have. It's a small chewable tablem like tums but dont take tums okay, not good for you. Take the Gas-X
