feeling sick
HI EVERYONE. I HAVE A QUESTION I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME WITH. I AM POST OP 18 DAYS AND I HAVE LOST 19 LBS. I HAVE BEEN DOING GREAT FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS BUT NOW THAT I HAVE STARTED ON SOME SOFT FOODS, I FIND JUST THE SMELL OF FOOD MAKES ME FEEL SICK TO MY STOMACH , EVEN LIQUIDS. I AM BARELY ABLE TO HOLD MORE THAN A COUPLE OF SPOONFULS AND I HAVE TO QUIT BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO THROW UP. I EAT REAL SLOW AND CHEW EVERYTHING WELL . IS THIS NORMAL AND WILL IT GET BETTER IN TIME OR SHOULD I BE CONCERNED? I CAN'T EVEN ENJOY MY MORNING DECAF COFFEE. PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE.
Robin,
First thing tomorrow, I would call your surgeon's office and talk with a nurse, or the dietician, and see what you need to do next. When you are only a few weeks out of surgery, any problems with tolerance like this should be addressed sooner rather than later. Your body is still healing from the surgery and it's important that you try to minimize any problems.
In the interim, I would just stick to some water and some protein shake if you can tolerate it. If you can't, then you aren't even getting any nutrients... and that's NOT a good thing.
But again, call the surgeon in the AM and let us know what they say.
Hope you get to feeling better soon!!
Joe
