I've been in hospital

The hospital let me come home yesterday. Here's what happened. Friday about 4 PM my stomach started hurting. It kept getting worse, and by 4:30 when I went home, it was getting bad. By 5 pm, I was in tears. I felt like my pouch was going to explode. I seriously thought I was going to die. I tried a sip of water, and that made it 1000x worse. I thought my pouch had exploded and all of this bile and crap was pouring into me and I was slowly dying. I called Dr champion, and Dr Williams called me back. He asked me what pain I was in from a 1 to 10.. and I said 9. Definitly a 9, and my surgery was only a 6. He told me to get to the ER at EMory Dunwoody immediately. I got to the hospital, and the ******g pain stopped, after 2 hours. I got there and they drew blood, took a urine sample, and chest X-ray. Jason called his mom, and she freaked out and started crying, and then he started crying.. (how sweet is he?) They put an IV in to draw blood, and he was going to take it out and I requested fluids, because I dont ever get enough.. so he said ok and gave me some. They gave me a triple ****tail of Maloxx and lidocaine and something else, so if it were an ulcer, it would stop hurting. (It did.) They said my X-ray was ok, and he wanted to do a CT scan. I had to drink this orange tang stuff that was chock full of sugar, and waited a few hours and they came to take me to my admission room, in the bariatric ward where I had surgery, He also said my Liver enzymes were up.. which freaked me out. I found out its minimal and usually indicated gallstones. They then came and took me to have my ct scan. Dr WIlliams came in and told me that my CT scan was fine.. nothing exploded (like it would have, anyway. Really..) and my surgery was still perfect. He said it was probably an ulcer or gallstones, and they scheduled me for a ultrasound in the morning. Jason went home to let the dogs in (30 minute trip) and put my meat up, and he called me on the way back. He was crying again and was pretty upset. he got back with food, because he thought I might be able to eat since I'd had the CT scan, but Dr put me on NPO. He also brought my favorite pillow from home We went to sleep and I had my ultrasound at 10.,.. it was supposed to be at 8, but the lady didnt get the request and when they called her she was at home in the bed. While doing myultrasound, she said I had gallstones. So, it was concluded that I either passed a stone, or I have an ulcer. I am going to wait 2 weeks and see if I have more pain, and if I do, I will have the endoscope and see if it's an ulcer. if not, I will have the galbladder out. This is really messed up because 1. I dont want to have another surgery 2. I dont want to miss work 3. I dont want to have surgery 4 weeks before we go to Daytona. Oh yeah.. I gained 13 lbs from the fluids. Nice, huh?

OOOOOH! I hope you get to feeling better soon!!! Good news...most gallbladder removals are done lap...so much better than open! I had my emergency surgery in Sept...that was open and my RNY was lap. I was in 50 times more pain being "thin" with the open than being super obese with the lap. Eat low fat...I heard that high fat can bring on the attack...ask your surgeon if there is ANYTHING you can do to avoid surgery until you have your vacation. I have no real advice...so I hope you feel better! At least you can go sit out in the sun today and enjoy a good book. Stay away from the adventurous meals! HUGGLES!!! Sherry

Hey, Kay (((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) The last time I lost a lot of weight, my gall bladder went bad. If it is your gall bladder, you are going to feel 100 percent better after you get that thing out. Mine was done LAP, and I only missed three days of work. I remember thinking I was going to die too, then the pain would just stop, but I felt like I had been in a fist fight...weak and very sore. My liver enzymes were also up until about two weeks after surgery...very scary! Daytona rocks! "Swee****ers" and "Aunt Catfish" are two of my favorite restaurants ever. The waves there are the best and NO seaweed. You'll still have fun if it's about a week after surgery, or if they schedule your surgery for after vacation, remember the food that triggered the attack and avoid it. Let us know what the doc says! Feel better soon!!! Becky

Oh my lord, girl! You have had a time of it haven't you? I'm so sorry you've been hurting and stuck in that miserable place. I hope you don't end up having to get your gallbladder taken out. I'm really glad they took mine out at the time of WLS. I knew I'd end up back in there asap, cause mine already hurt sometimes. Please keep us up to date on how you're doing and what they figure out! Eeeeekkk! Not a good story...HowEVAH, the ending is happier than it MIGHT have been, considering it could have been a full blown EXPLOSION! I couldn't help but laugh AFTER I got to the part where it DIDN"T explode! lol....Gawd, CAN IT???? I HOPE not! I hope they can get you fixed up without surgery, but like they said, the gall bladder removals now are like a piece of cake compared to years ago. You're STILL gonna have fun at da'beach! I'm already without a gall bladder but I'm going next Monday to speak to a gastro doc who will do I guess something similar to upper GI...drinking awful stuff I know is part of the test. I, too, have over the past few months had "spells" of burning sensations I felt were becoming more intense and frequent....sometimes, dull, gnawing pain...sometimes when I have an empty stomach and sometimes eating a bite helps. For whatever it is, I'd like to be more aware and make sure it's not ulcers trying to form so in a week or two maybe I'll know more. My pepcid am/pm if I take it, certainly helps. We're going to see if I indeed have any "acid" reflux. They can plant a probe or some sort to measure acidity for 24 hours if I understood Dr. Burrowes correctly. As of now, it hasn't been a both in a while, but that's the pattern...a week or two without...a week or two with. Good luck and keep us posted! I always marvel at how many folks have these same symptoms.

Hi Kay, I'm so sorry to hear about your gall bladder. I had mine out years ago and while I was stubbornly refusing surgery they had me on a NO fat diet and some medicine called an anti spasmodic. Made a world of difference. Of course there was vicodin for the pain. If you can wait til after Daytona ask your doc about the meds and try to eat as little fat as possible. Its the fat that makes the gall bladder put out bile and when the gall bladder is working is what causes the pain. Hope this offers you some relief. Your pictures look fantastic! Although I think you were always a cutie! Best wishes, Barb
