Stall...

Rassinfrassin....grumble. I know that logically the stall is bound to happen. But I'm bummed that I'm not even a freaking month post op. Last Wednesday I weighed in at the docs and have lost 42 pounds, but it seems that I haven't lost anything since then (a week). I'm truly bummed because I was reading statistics that say the surgery averages 44 to 70 lbs of weight loss for 10 years maintained. Someone tell me that it's going to be OK and this is normal.

42 pounds in 2 weeks???!!!! WOW!!! Your body is just playing catch up. The first 10 days I only lost 12 pounds. And now I feel like it has stopped but when I look back I am still losing 1-3 pounds a week which is very slow but still going down, so I am still happy. Don't worry, it's going to be OK and this is normal.

Are you kidding, I would have been jumping for joy!!! I lost 16 lbs in the first 2 weeks, and nothing for 3 weeks. I thought I was the ONLY one that WLS would not work for. But here I sit 2 years later and down 187 lbs! SO hang in there, I promise you will lose more!!!! Hazel Lap RNY 02/05/03 325/138/???

Darrick, I'm sure everything will be fine. I am still pre-op. My surgery is April 25th with Dr. Duncan. No doubt you have many more pounds just waiting to melt away. I would love to talk to you about your experience with WLS and Dr. D. also. You will be Fine. Torre

You might be my husband, but I'm also here for support (I type this as you are sitting in front of me watching t.v.). I agree with everyone here. Remember when Susan Cali said that you would stall after a couple of weeks. I think it is because your body thinks you are starving, and it is trying very hard to hold onto fat for a supply. You will continue to lose weight. I want to tell everyone how proud I am of you. You are doing so great...making such great choices and tolerating everything so very well. You are literally melting in front of me. I love you so much, and I'm so thankful that we have each other and all of the OH support group for help. We are truly blessed that we can go through this together. You'll look back at this after a year and losing 100+ pounds and think it was silly.

Relax my friend, everyone I know has gone thru the post op speedbump. Mine lasted about 2.5 weeks - I had lost 41 # and then nothing from week 3 to week 5.5 - the weight loss will resume again Just have faith.

Hi Derrick, don't dispair! At 3 weeks out I completely STOPPED!! I was soooo sure that was it for me...let's see....at that point, I had lost about 38 pounds. Well, here I sit, 133 pounds lighter, and on another stall. Argh...however, when I went to see my doc, and he saw I wasn't even a year out, he assured me that I was STILL not done! YAY! Keep up your great work, and you will be dancing in the aisles/street before you know it!! Best of luck to you! Tami

I'm so glad you posted this Derrick! I'm now 11 weeks out, but at 8 weeks out I stalled too. Two and one half weeks with no loss; even went up a pound, then lost it, but nothing further. Finally, I went down another pound this week. I can now get into clothes I thought I'd never wear. They're still large, but there's no "W" after the size, and no "X" anywhere in sight. (I know my women friends will understand what I mean!) We've got to hang in there, like all the other messages have said. (I'm thankful to you folks as well. I was about to post the same kind of comments, asking if this is normal.) Cheryl

Derrick, Dont worry, I had my surgery the day before you, and at 2 weeks I stalled. Now I have been losing anywhere from 1/2 to 2 lbs a day. You just had a rush with the first couple of weeks, and not that your diet is adjusting, you body has to adjust to the new foods you are eating. That is what my reasoning was. You go from liquids to solids, another shock to your body. Anyway, you arent done, and neither are any of us. Keep working, it will start coming again. D'Lynn 232/229/210
