I just got off of the phone with BCBS again. I called last week to find out if WLS was covered and it was. I went to WLS seminar last night at Emory and found that I needed to ask if it obesity was considered a preexisting condition. I just found out that I have to wait 6 months before I can have surgery. I then asked if I could appeal this and was told yes, but I don't really know what I am bothering. I am just crushed. I will get over it but man, I am really bumbed. Thanks for listening.

Try not to get too discouraged. 6 months of physician supervised diet history is pretty much standard for everyone. So had you not already had this and you had to get it prior to insurance approval, you'd be in the same boat. Keep your chin up and keep on trying. 6 months compared to never isn't too bad really. Those hoops we must go thru..... Perseverance will get it done for you!!!!! Good Luck! Susan Lap RNY 12-1-04 285-212-155 (-73)

I know how you are feeling, I had to wait 9 months to change insurance company before I could get approved. This time will go by faster than you think, I think things happen for a reason, and you will be better prepared for what is to come. I joined a non surgeon support group, and learned so much in those 9 months. I am now 2 years post-op and still learning! Hang in there those 6 months will be gone before you know it! Also I would be getting all my ducks in a row, go to your PCP and get on a diet (you may not need it, but insurance companies can change in a second). Good luck Hazel Lap RNY 02/05/03 325/138/???

Don't give up. I know it's easy to want to just throw the towel in. You've got some options here, go on the supervised diet for 6 months. Either prepare yourself for the surgery by doing so OR lose weight. Either way this is a win/win situation. I had to wait nearly 2 years for my surgery, it was a hard road and I never thought I'd get through it, but I did. So can you! I know you can. If you need to talk with someone I"m here. Amy
