Surgery day is almost here
GOOD AFTERNOON TO ALL.
I JUS****ED TO WRITE AND TELL EVERYONE HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE ALL THE SUPPORT . IT IS REALLY GREAT .
WELL MY DAY IS ALMOST HERE (FRIDAY) AND I FIND MYSELF SO NERVOUS AND JITTERY. I TELL MYSELF I WON'T THINK ABOUT FRIDAY BUT THAT IS THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK ABOUT. THIS IS SOMETHING I HAVE WANTED FOR SO LONG AND IT IS REALLY ABOUT TO HAPPEN. I KEEP THINKING I'LL BE ON THE LOSING SIDE SOON AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE IF I CAN JUST STAY CALM UNTIL THEN. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE? WHAT WAS IT LIKE JUST A FEW DAYS BEFORE YOUR SURGERY? I KNOW SOME PEOPLE SAY GO AND ENJOY ALL YOUR FAVORITE FOODS BECAUSE IT WILL BE A LONG TIME UNTIL YOU CAN HAVE THEM AGAIN. BUT I FIND I AM SO NERVOUS THAT THE THOUGHT OF FOOD MAKES ME FEEL SICK. GOT TO GET OFF HERE I CAN'T SIT STILL . YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN GREAT, MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL. I'LL TRY AND POST AGAIN SOON
Hi Robin! I'm not on the losing side yet--so can't tell you what I actually did as I waited for my surgery date. I can tell you the 'list' of things I think I might do, however...
1. Clean my house from top to bottom.
I think coming home slightly "under the weather" and having a messy house would just make me ill and more uncomfortable.
2. Take my car to have it washed.
Same reasoning as above!
3. Organize my closet.
I think I'll section off my clothes by size...my 'fatty fatty 2 by 4' clothes in one section--they'll be the first to be given away. Then I'll section off my 'I will wear this again someday' clothes...cuz I'll be working into them quickly. Last will be the section for things from years ago--the "I'll never be able to fit in this again but I can't bear to give up the dream" clothes. Who knows? Maybe I'll get into them again!!!
4. Maybe make a few meals that can be frozen for my family.
This is just in case I'm feeling very crabby about facing food I can't eat. I can just thaw it out and bake it and not have to deal with it! I think this would help me get thru the first liquid diet stages.
5. The days just before surgery, I'll make sure all my laundry is done-and the kids have clothes for school folded together so the youngest won't go mismatched by my dear hubby. I dont' want to be in the hospital wondering if he picked out something for her to wear!
I don't know...but those are things I've thought of to do when I get a surgery date. You may have these things done all the time...I'm not that terribly organized just now.
Hugs!
Michelle
Hey Robin,
Congratulations on this wonderful journey you've committed to!
I am also still post-op like Michelle but I just had my nutrition consult. One thing she really stressed to me that it is really hard on your body and heart to do that last minute pig out so you are really heading in the right direction by not doing that.
I always find comfort in praying. And I have a wonderful little book called God's Words of Life. It has different passages for different things happening in your life. "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
I hope this will bring you some comfort. And if all else fails... clean your closet
You are in my thoughts and I pray for your successful surgery and quick recovery.
Barb

Hi, Robin, Do not fall for the need to eat your favorite foods now. I bet I gained at least ten pounds when I was where you are. I will never know becasue I was too chicken to step on the scale. Ignorance is bliss?!? I would love to have those pounds back!! You will eat your favorites again...promise, soon! The cool thing is that I have developed some new favorites...like blueberries and scallops. Some things I did during the last week were: wrote letters to my loved ones...not "in case I die," but "wanted to let you know what you mean to me." I talked to friends on the phone.I cleaned the house...a little. I prayed a lot...for courage, strength, and good health. Right now, I am working in the yard. If you plant flowers, you would have something beautiful to come home to after surgery. I bought vitamins and a few groceries for after...loved Soup on Hand by Campbell's.
Robin, please know we are here for you!!!
Much
headed your way!!!
Becky

Robin,
I did the usual - clean the house, shop, laundry, write my letters....but the best advice I can give is to spend time with family and friends. They, too, are going to have a life changing event happen. Spend quality time with them, especially if you have children.
And just to let you know....my favorite foods before my surgery are not my favorite foods after surgery! Funny how cravings for cottage cheese and seafood replaces cravings for hamburgers and french fries!!
Best to you, see you on the other side!
