First time here
Hi Crissy,
I recently had my surgery. It sounds crazy to say it was wonderful, I know. I feel guilty every time I say this because I am saddened when I hear of someone having a different outcome. I guess for me I had made up my mind that some small complications were just par for the course, and I was going to have a good attitude and suck it up until things got better. Hasn't happened yet. So I define the difference between what I expected and what I got as just WONDERFUL.
In the hospital I had no pain (just gas that was gone by the time I got home). I never took any pain medicine after I got home, didn't need it, and I'm a real cry baby about such things. The worse thing that happened in the hospital was that horrible barium that I had to drink to check for leaks.
At home, I have had no trouble drinking or eating from the very beginning. Everything seems to agree with me. They took my drain tube out at the hospital. I came home with steri-strips on my stab wounds. Slept in my bed from the first night. No dumping, no vomitting, my biggest problem nowadays is just making sure that I eat slow enough. I've lost 33 lbs. I feel great. I've finally been good to me. Best thing I ever did for myself.
You are in my prayers for the same kind of uneventful, non-occurences during your surgery and recovery. God bless.
Joyce

Hi Crissy! Best of luck for your surgery on Monday! I will be two weeks post-op on Monday, and my surgery was a breeze. The worst part about the whole thing was I could not have ANYTHING, not even ice chips, right after my surgery. Talk about cottonmouth! Yuck!
I didn't have to do the leak test that many folks talk about...I think they tested everything while they were in there. I had minimal pain...mainly the JP drain site (don't be scared when you wake up to find that!) and the largest incision on the left side (where I think they re-route/re-connect all the "plumbing"). TAKE CHAP STICK WITH YOU!!! You will want that when you first come out because you are as dry as the desert! Gas pain is to be expected, so get up and walk, walk, walk! It really does help to move the gas out! I hope you have an easy, uncomplicated surgery and my prayers are with you and your surgeon! After Monday you will be a loser like the rest of us!
Hugs and prayers,
Ginger
