Short Term Memory Loss
My hubby had RNY surgery on Feb 1 and is doing well other than one thing. He is having a problem with his short term memory. When he is sent out on a job sometime he forgets what he was sent to do when he gets there. Other times he forgets what he did on the job and he is suppose to write a report on all his jobs. Has anyone else experience this problem?
Thanks,
Debbie
Hi, Debbie,
I have had times of forgetfulness that were helped by B12 shots and/or being sure to get in all of my protein. It has been especially bad when I have not eaten enough...easier to do when you're not hungry all the time. Your hubby may want to keep a small notebook handy to jot things down until his memory improves. This helps me. Please encourage him to call his surgeon. If he's like my hubby, you already have, and he's hesitant. It's better to be safe!!!
Please keep us posted!
Becky
Thank you for your reply Becky. He will be having his labs soon so hopefully that will tell us something. Tonight is the first time he mentioned this problem to me. I suggested he use a clipboard or noteboo****il this is figured out or improves. I posted this on the main board also and have recieved several suggestion as to what the problem could be. They were the anesthesia, needing some good carbs, and as you mentioned the B-12 and need for more protein. He WILL call his PCP in the morning and if he doesn't know then hubby will be calling his surgeon. His boss is concerned about him, but at least it isn't affecting his ability to do his job. Right now it is more of an aggrevation, but he doesn't want it to get any worse. By-the-way he has lost a total of 51 lbs.; 14 in the 6wks before surgery and 37 since surgery on Feb 1. He's gone from a size 60 pants to a size 54. I'm so very proud of him.
I'm always here reading and the few times I have posted everyone has been so nice about helping me find the needed answer.
