Do most people have to have cosmetic surgery after losing the weight? Are there ways in which you can help your skin to keep its elasticity so that you will not have to resort cosmetic surgery.

Hi Caren Many post ops either do "have to" have plastics or choose to after weight loss. Sometimes it is a functional and/or hygeine issue while other times it is just the individual's comfort/satisfaction level. When you lose a large amount of weight rapidly sometimes it is unavoidable to have some loose skin in areas. It is on an individual basis however. The things that will help you along the way and may minimize the need is exercising (cardio & strength training), drinking a lot of water, taking your vitamins, and keeping your skin hydrated with just a good lotion (no "miracle" lotions). Again, it is all on an individual basis. Age, BMI, your skin's elasticity, etc all play a major role. For instance, Julie Hedges, one of the members who had surgery with Dr. Champion, looks awesome and hasn't had plastics. She has been a wonderful inspiration to me. Check out her web page some time - it is veryencouraging. Just add the www. to the site below. (e-dreamerz.net/JULIE_WEIGHT_PAGE/) Well, I hope that helps some. Good luck with everything & God Bless. Hi Mary: I am so sorry I did not respond sooner, but I haven't been on line in the past few days - Julie's profile link is below or if you can't pull it up that way click on the "find peers" link @ the top of your screen & search for her in Ga. The name is Julie Hedges. I hope that helps. Take care & God Bless Angel obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/profile.phtml?N=H1008264851 Remember to add the www.

I know I will have to have reconstructive surgery. I started at 486 and am down to 345 now, and it's already getting bad. I'm not surprised the lady on the website above didn't have to have surgery. She only started at 260 I believe. The bigger you are, the more certain you'll have to have it. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it though! Kelle
