I am in the process of getting everything together . I go to my PCP next Thurs and the information session on March 10. I need to know ... I live alone and my brother and sister in law live in Mo.. Do I need to hire someone to stay with me if I get approved..after the surgery? My best friend doesn't want to be responsible..hum? Thank you so much for your advice

It really depends on how well you do after surgery. Do you have a friend that could come by daily and check on you or help you if there is something you need help doing or stay there while you take a shower so if you fell they could help you? I was able to get up and walk to the kitchen and bathroom. I slept semi sitting up on the couch the first week. Had plenty of s/f jello, instant potatos, etc to live off of. I wish I could answer it with a yes or no, however we are all so different. I had an open Fobi Pouch. Lynn

Like Lynn says, that is a hard question to answer. It would help if someone was at least close by in case you needed anyone. If I was closer to you, I would help. Maybe someone on here who is close can. If you need anything, yell and I will do what I can. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

Donna: My surgeon required that I bring my support person with me to the first surgeon's appt--they wouldnt see me without one. So my surgeon expected this person to support and help me post op. You will definitely need someone to drive you to and from the hospital. When I left the hospital I felt good, but I was still weak and unable to drive. So I needed someone to get my prescriptions filled and run errands and it was hard to get up and down from laying flat by myself. Each one of us are so different. Have you had any other major surgery before you could compare to? Since you are at the beginning of the process, maybe you could meet someone in a local support group who would be willing to be "on call" for you post op. Take Care, Kelly S

Donna, I didn't have anyone spend the night in the hospital with me which is fine because you can always ring for a nurse but I did have my mother stay over the first few days. I think I could have done things myself but it was nice to have someone there to help me up and to help prepare my meals and run to the store if needed so I would recommend having someone if you can. Maybe closer to the time you can talk to your friend again. Best of luck! ~Bonnie
