Liver enzymes too high
I was in the hospital on Dec. 29 . I had very bad stomach pains for 22 hours. I had a ct scan and x-rays . They didn't fine anything. My surgeon sent me a couple of weeks ago for a disida scan, it didn't show anything. I went back to my PCP Friday and he called me today and said my liver enzymes are too high. I go next week to a gastroenterologist and I've got to have another ct scan and an upper GI on Monday . Have any of you had this problem ? Judy
Hi Judy,
About 10 yrs ago, while having an exploratory laproscopy to find why I was having abdominal pain, they found that I had fatty liver disease. My liver enzymes were extremely high. And they would bounce back and forth between moderately high and extremely high. Thru my years of dealing with this I learned quite abit about it, and what would make my blood work go high. Tylenol and Aleve were some of my biggest trouble makers. Also, if I knew it was within a month or two of bloodwork, I would hold off on any alcohol, as it would also cause it rise.
Before my WLS back in December, I really noticed that my upper abdomen was extremely swollen, and I was having pain in it. When I would lie in bed at night, I could barely see over it. Within one month of surgery, that swollen upper abdomen of mine was gone. Back flat again. And when I had my 1st set of post-op labwork, my liver enzymes were in the lower levels of normal range. 1st time in over 10 years they have been normal. My Gastroenterologist did a liver biopsy, and said that other than the fatty liver disease, that my liver was ok. When people are obese like I am, the fat has to attach somewhere, and quite often it is to the liver.
Make sure to let the doctors know of any and all meds you take, including over the counter stuff like Tylenol. It can make the difference just by stopping taking some meds if they don't agree with your liver.
Good Luck to you
Susan
