Aetna stopping coverage

Hello. I have been trying to get approved thru Aetna and I just heard that as of Jan 1 they are going to stop covering WLS all together. Has anyone else heard this? Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks, Bonnie

Bonnie, I am covered by Aetna and my surgery is January 4, 2005. It is true that they will no longer cover the surgery after Jan. 1, there are alot of insurance companies doing that this year. I spoke to someone at Aetna when I found out my surgery was next year and they told me I was covered. So, I paniced. Then I spoke to someone with some sense at Aetna and they told me the same thing, EXCEPT: if your group (employer) has purchased a rider for this surgery in 2005. Call Aetna back and tell them what company you are with. It may be that your company has purchased this rider. We are with the railroad and they have purchased it (thank god) so I am covered.
