Ok, so how do you deal with this? I was getting ready for my surgery, supposedly Dec. 27th. This is my second date. It has already been post poned once from Oct. 18th. Well, I find out today that my husbands company changed policies last month and we didn't know it. Same company, new plan. Now, WLS is not covered under any cir****tances under the new plan. It was covered under the old one. There is no way we can self pay. I've been through SOOO much to get here and now it's not going to happen. I have no clue how to get it paid for any other way. I am so depressed. How do those of you who's insurance won't cover, handle it? How do you come up with so much $ to self pay it? Sorry for such a personal question, but I'm grasping at straws. Thanks Melissa

If you were already approved, I would think you'd be ok. Have you asked the insurance company about this?

I didn't have my final approval yet. They had told my Surgeon's office the final things I needed to do to get the approval. I had my final "supervised weight loss" appointment this week and we were to send in for the final approval after that. Once that was done, under the old policy, I was told I would be approved no problem. Now, due to the policy change, under no cir****tances will they cover WLS. Melissa

Melissa, call the insurance company and speak to someone that you KNOW has the straight story. Call your husband's Human Relations Dept. (be nice....he has to work there.)...and ask if a company can renege on approved procedures. When you speak to the ins. company, tell them you're call the State Insurance Board as you need someone to qualify what just happened to you. If you have a date, it was my understanding that you would be covered. I hope I'm right. So many folks are going through this same thing. (( Good Luck.

What about COBRA? Can you keep the same insurance thru that for a few months. I know if you quit your job you have that option but I don't know if you still can if the company changes. They do charge a lot but not close to what the surgery will cost. Good Luck!!!
