I am switching to BCBS-HMO and now is our open enrollment time. I need the name of a family doctor in the Atlanta or metro area who supports WLS as this is my main reason for changing carrier. My deadline is Monday for me to complete the form! Please put on your thinking cap and help me. Thanks.

My insurance is BCBS of GA, Blue Choice, (HMO). My PCP is Pratima Bakshi with WellStar at the Towne Lake office in Woodstock. She is an internal specialist. Dr. Bakshi was completely supportive of my WLS! The phone number is 770 592-3000. I think she's great! Hope this helps, Becky

Hi Phyllis, If you are willing to drive as far as Athens (60 miles from Atlanta), there is a fine surgeon here that performs WLS. His name is Sergio T. Mejias, M.D. and I think he is great! I am still pre-op, but in view of what his other patients have said, and from what I have observed myself about him and his office staff, I have every faith in him. He is willing to sit down with you and answer every one of your concerns and issues, and his nurse (when she is in the office) always has time to help in any way she can. You can find him by going to "Find a Doc" option at the top of this page, and clicking on the state os Georgia. I wish you the best of luck! Pat

I'm so sorry, Phyllis...I misread your post and thought you were asking about a surgeon vs. a family physician. Pat

During the past several days there has been ALOT of discussion on the WINGS around Atlanta Board. BCBS is notifying employers that effective with the employers next renewal, BCBS of Georgia will no longer cover any type of weight loss surgery. Its my understanding that with the BCBS PPO the employer may have an option to pay higher premiums and include WLS, but I'm not definete on that -- check this out with your employer. Best of luck

Lil, I have checked with my employer and with the BCBS staff during our open enrollment fair. We are covered. I also requested a copy of the Certificate Booklet and it states that we are covered as long as it is "medically necessary". And believe me, I am "medically necessary". But thanks for responding. I am soooo wanting to be a loser... Thanks.

Where are you located? If you're any where near Dunwoody, I can recommend a great PCP... Kelle
