Surgery question

OK, 1st I have to start and tell you last night's food dream was about turkey tv dinners.   I was in a restaurant wanting to order food and all they had was spoiled turkey tv dinners and the staff kept laughing at me....    I  know these dreams must be entertaining to somebody, just not me, so I thought I'd share that tidbit.

OK the real question????

Do they put a tube down your throat before surgery. I saw an episode of Big Medicine and it seemed like they were torturing this guy trying to get the tube down!  Please tell me they won't do this while I am awake.  I don't think I could do it.   Also do they take it out before you wake up? Does it hurt?

What about  the catheter? Are you awake when they do that?

They do put a tube down your throat when you have any type of surgery, but you are asleep when they do it. If they do a cath you would be asleep also.

They put the tube down my throat and took it out while I was asleep.  I actually thought I had a canker sore that was starting and then realized maybe I just got a little cut or irritated from the tube.  It was gone in a few days.

My catheter was put in after I was asleep and was taken out the next morning.  I had never had one before., but it was no big deal.

Yes, they put a tube down your throat. I don't remember it going in or coming out.... but I know I had one. Some people say they remove it as you are "coming to" from the anesthesia.

Ok, I guess I won't know the difference while I am asleep. The thought of being awake when they do it is horrifying. Maybe they did that guy on Big Medicine when he was awake because of his large size.
