KFC Grilled Chicken

So,  I went and waited in line 30 minutes for my free piece of chicken tonight.  I know, pretty lame, but not much else goes on in Stockbridge GA on a Monday night, so I figured why not...

Well the chicken was ok, not spectacular. I still prefer the original.  It didn't really taste grilled. More like a super crispy rotisserie (did I spell that right) chicken.  It had a strong rosemary flavor.   It was VERY tender and juicy though, which is why I decided to post about it.   I would think this would be an ideal post op protein source.

I snagged a nutritional brochure:

Grilled                                    protein       fat                 calories                        weight

drumstick ............................10g            4g                      70                                 39g

thigh .....................................15g           9g                      140                              65g

breast ................................. 35             4g                       180                             119g

This is a lot healthier. In comparison an original breast has 31 g of fat!  That's like a little less than 10 times the grilled!!!   Not to mention all the extra junk they likely inject into the original!

If you remove the skin it will be even better for you. The meat itself was flavored well, and I did not miss the skin at all.     I normally love the skin, but I am trying to practice being a better eater.  I had a thigh which was very moist and tender.  I am not sure how well a breast would go down post op.

A thigh minus the skin and an individual green beans or baked beans would be a good on the go choice.   Skip the baked beans if you have rny. It has a ton of sugar and you may dump.

I went and had my piece of free chicken yesterday as well, but didn't have to wait at all.  I agree, pretty decent.  Thanks for posting nutritional info.  I noticed 1 or 2 posts over on the main board or maybe RNY of post-ops who tried it yesterday and didn't do as well as they would have hoped with it...saying the fat content was too high.  Hmm, I wonder which pieces they had.  I see the thigh (which is what I was given) has higher fat than the breast or drumstick.

Not sure, but I think taking the skin off makes a difference too.
