Endoscopy???? anyone
Hi Lillian I don't have Duncan but my surgeon works out of the same hospital as him. My surgeon requested that I do what some call Upper GI Exam...well when I got to GI's doctor..they called it a Upper GI Endoscopy...so that may be it...it views the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract.
Wish you well....the process is soo fun....LOL

hey Lillian34..when I go in for certain procedures I try not to base it on other folks experience...cause you know some folk are more "squeamish" than others..
Thursday night I messed around and read a blog of a OH member in NJ..she had the Upper GI endoscopy using the flexible endoscope down the throat w/ IV sedation..and she was saying that the procedure was "horrible" and that she "gagged the whole time"....so I was like OMG. I went in Friday for the same procedure and it was a breeze..had IV sedation..they sprayed the back of my throat with this "numbing throat spray that taste bitter-sweet...after that 2nd throat spray by one nurse and the other nurse giving me what they call "happy juice"...girl I was out...all I remember is them wakin me up in recovery...didn't feel a thing. When I went to the GI for my consult I made sure I told him that I had a MAJOR gag reflex and I wanted to be put out...he said they would take care of me..and they did just that...and of course I prayed for God to give me comfort during such procedures..so it was a done deal as far as I'm concerned
Now there are some doctors who use a barium x-ray(which some say is awful cause they make you drink some yukky stuff) and ultrasound to study the organs in the upper abdomen. The endoscopy though gives doctors a direct view of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum also making them able to remove polyps and take biopsies if needed....so nothing goes in REAR(lol) but it goes in the mouth down the esophagus.
I say to anyone if you have any concerns tell the doctors or anesthesia techs..they are there to make sure we're comfortable during any procedure.
I'm sure yours will go well!
