I have Cigna SHBP in GA. I want the DS laproscopic, but none of the surgeons on the list do DS.  It has to be a preferred surgeon at a "Center of Excellence". I would travel to another state if I need to. Would prefer to stay in the southeast, but at this point would consider all options.

The more research I do, the DS, seems like the right procedure for me. I just can't find a surgeon.

IS DR SCOTT IN ROME GA ON THE LIST

No Dr. Scott is not but according to my PCP Dr. Robert Smith (who is part of Harbin Clinic), Dr. Scott's office is working on getting the Center of Excellence Certification.  Now this is just heresay, I haven't actually called to find out what's what.

Just playing "devil's advocate" here...remember, it's not just that a hospital is a Center of Excellence...it's that they are on "Cigna's special list".  Same thing with UHC, it's only 2 hospitals UHC is allowing at this time and I know there are more than 2 or 3 Centers of Excellence for bariatric surgery in Georgia.

I spoke with the bariatric coordinator at Emory John's Creek about a month or so ago.  There are some paperwork hoops they have to jump through to get on Cigna's list.  I pointed her to the place on Cigna's website where it gave the information.  She was going to see what they could do.  In the meantime, I'm not waiting since it takes 90 days from the day they submit the application.  I should be ready to submit to insurance in early January (which is short of the 90 days assuming they did all the paperwork immediately).

I was stating my family doctor, Dr. Smith, made reference to Dr. Scott's practice being in the process of being certified as a COE

You cant go wrong with Dr Hart!! He is a Center of Excellence and one of the best in the South in my opinion!  Atlanta Baratrics / Johns Creek     The hospital is amazing as well!  iM NOT SURE ABOUT CIGNA BUT THEY TAKE SEVERAL FROM WHAT Ive heard.

Good luck G

Check to see if Dr. Maynard is on the Cigna list.  He wasn't listed on the Aetna website but he was on the list and I had in-network benefits.  I had planned on paying the maximum out of pocket for my surgery this year but I ended up paying less.
