Done with 6 month diet, now what?
Have you done all your other appointments that are typically required? If you have then it should just be a matter of them submitting your paperwork and waiting for approval. I would definately call the office to check in with them and ask when they will be submitting and verify they have everything.
Good Luck!
Well to answer all questions, I have done all the pre testing and the support group meetings. I went to my PCP and he doesn't think I should have the surgery. What should I do? He says if I want to he will go against what the thinks and write up my letter but I would hate to go against his advice, but I just don't know what to do. I spoke to Cindi and she said all she needs is my 6 months of charts, and his letter along with my 2 year history of weight. My PCP says he thinks I am too healthy to have the surgery and that I do not need it to lose weight. He told me to just stop eating and I will lose the weight. I had only lost 15 or 20 lbs on the 6 month diet and the scales has stopped moving down. He said I have actually gained a pound since last visit. I'm just so upset over this cuz I have no idea what to do now. Do the risks outweigh the good here? He says he doesn't want me to get the gastric and if I have to do it he would go with lap band, but my insurance will not pay for the adjustments so what's the point? Plus do you have a tube hanging out of your side forever? If so I can't do it cuz I will not heal well and my skin will rot like it did with my c section drain. This is so frustrating! Any guidance would be appreciated!
How much weight do you have to lose?
Do you have any health problems?
Have you been to a seminar for wls?
If you want to do it go for it. It's your body, not your pcp's. I would get the approval letter from my PCP, be polite and courteous until I get my surgery approved, and drop my PCP for a new one. Definitely would not get an attitude with him for fear he wouldn't cooperate and sabotage your insurance approval process.
No you don't have something sticking outside of your body with a lap band. Go to lapband.com to research it.
I think your wls surgeon would be the better person to advise you on which procedure is best for your personal health, since they will be doing the procedure and is more knowledgeable on wls.

In my opinion You do need to decide if the problems are high enough to justify the risk but that is your choice! It is a life long change and can be hard from time to time but you have got to be the one to decide what is best for you! Get all of your paperwork in order . Write a letter listing all of your health issues and take it to your Dr to sign. If he refuses change drs. YOu still have your paperwork which is what your ins needs. You need to make sure you have the support of a dr on both ends. I was lucky that my dr totally supported my decision. This is a life changing event and you need to make sure you take everything into consideration. No one says you cant put it off until YOU ARE DEFIANTLY POSITIVELY sure of what you want to do!!!
Good Luck

Thanks all for the advice. I am currently 245 and 5 foot 4 inches. To me this means I should be around 120 so I have a bit to lose. My Dr just says I'm too healthy to need this now. I have diabetes but also have 3 young kids and want to live to be with them. I'm only 25 years old, but still. I picked Dr Hart, went to the seminar, went to the consult with him and he said he would do either surgery on me. I have always wanted the gastric cuz it seemed to act quicker and I need a good jump start. After the consult, I went to the nutritionist, got a diet plan, and followed it, while going to my PCP for the 6 months of health notes. He has tested my A1C a few times and I do weights with him every month. I have been going to the gym every day of the 6 months and have lost 20 lbs. I have all my paper work except his approval letter and 6 months of notes. He drew more blood Monday for another A1C. His advice is not to do it, and I know he is only interested in my health, so I'm so lost now. I have tried to do this twice now but ended up pregnant in the 6th month before so I was so excited to get to this point again and submit to insurance, but now this roadblock keeps making me think that it's a sign not to. I have even done all my labs and my psych eval. Everything is in order except his stuff. All this just makes me wanna scream!
